Fred looked at John and swallowed the lump in her throat. Seeing him there made her miss her own husband. He had been her life and now he was gone. She knew she needed to move on but the thought scared her. So many 'what ifs' were running through her mind and all Fred wanted was to do right by her daughter and put all of this behind her. She knew it wasn't going to be easy but she needed to for both Alex and John.
"Okay," she whispered.
Slowly, she got up and grabbed onto John for support. Once she had her bearings, she nodded toward the door. "Come on. Alex is by Operations. She's there alone. The parasite...it didn't have much use for her so she would leave her there by herself," she said as her throat tightened. She had so much to make up to her daughter.
Fred led all of them out of the lab and toward Operations. Once they got there, Sam said she was going to contact the Tok'ra since they dealt with such things and they could help Fred and Carson. While she was doing that, Rodney broadcast the high pitch frequency John had used earlier on Carson throughout the entire city.
Walking into the room, Fred looked across the room at Alex. The little girl was sitting in the dark and when she heard them walk in, she looked up. "Hi, sweetie," Fred whispered.
"Hi, mama," Alex quietly said, obviously lacking the enthusiasm her counterpart showed on a daily basis.
Fred rushed over to her and picked her up from the floor. She held her close and buried her face against her hair. "We're leaving, Alex. I promise things will be different," she whispered as tears slid down her face.
"Want to go, mama," Alex said as she started to cry also.
