Fred looked over at John as he explained who Caitlin was. She nodded a little, remembering how she'd met Jack a few times before coming to Atlantis since he sat in on a few meetings she'd been a part of. She had no idea he had a daughter or that she worked for SGC. Shifting a little, Fred continued to listen to John and frowned when he said Carson and Caitlin had been together at one time. No wonder Carson had reacted like he had.
"I should've known. Every time Carson's name came up, Caitlin got this look on her face. Kind of like a mixture of remorse and hurt," she said as she cuddled against John. "That's kind of sad. And now it seems Sam and Carson are having some problems. Sam was a little distance on our trip. She said Carson and her were having issues."
Fred knew there was nothing she could do to help their friends and things had to fall where they fell. With a deep breath, she leaned over and softly kissed John's cheek. Just then, her headset, which was sitting on the coffee table, went off. Sighing, she reached over and stuck it in her ear.
"What's up, Rodney?" she asked.
"I'm going to help Jeannie and Sam with the bridge and I was wondering if you could work on the machine? We need to figure out a way to make it so the machine kills the parasite quickly so it's not screaming or it'll attract too much attention," he said.
"I'll see what I can do. How about I start it after lunch?"
"Sounds good to me," Rodney said before ending the conversation.
Fred leaned against John. "So much for taking the rest of the day off," she said with a small laugh.
