Fred kissed her husband goodbye and then did the same with Alex. She opened her mouth to say something but knew John would know what she was thinking. She gave them both a hug goodbye before she turned and started toward the Gate. She was just walking through when she heard John's voice in her head. I love you too, she thought back before the event horizon closed behind Sam and her.
"Welcome back to Earth, Colonel Beckett and Doctor Sheppard," General Landry said as he smiled at the both of them.
"Thank you, General Landry," Fred said.
"We've secured transport for you to Boiling Air Force base. There will be a car waiting for you to use. And we've gotten you rooms at a hotel in Georgetown. We did a small background check on this Timothy McGee and saw he lives near there," Landry said. "There's a car waiting for you outside to take you to Peterson. And, if you have any problems convincing them, get me a call. The Apollo is in orbit and they can help."
"Thank you, sir," Fred said as she glanced over at Sam.
Fred took a deep breath and followed Landry out of the Gate room. For the first time since walking through the Gate, she realized she couldn't feel John as strongly as she normally did. He was still there but it was really faint and it bothered her.
Soon, they were on a plane to D.C. Fred didn't say a lot since she was still getting used to being this far away from John, and she really didn't like being in a plane her husband wasn't piloting. When they got to D.C., they were led to the car and Fred got into the driver's side.
"Something wrong, Sam?" she asked as she pulled away from the curb and started toward Tim's apartment.
