Fred hadn't planned on going to the mainland but on the way to the way to the lab, she ran into Katie Brown. The other woman went on for several moments about a grape-like fruit they'd found there. The thought of having grapes to eat was appealing to Fred so she talked Jennifer and Laura into going with Alex and her to the mainland.
The trees Katie had told them about was filled with the fruit. They spent a great deal of time picking it, only stopping when Fred looked over at Jennifer and Laura. "Wow. You should've used some of Alex's sun screen," she said. Both of their faces were beet red.
"You're a little burnt too," Jennifer pointed out with a laugh. She then looked down at her arms and wrinkled her nose. "There's some stuff in medical we can use if you want to go back."
"I look like a lobster," Laura muttered.
Fred snorted and touched her cheeks, knowing they were probably burnt. "Let me get the little princess over there and we'll head back," she said, knowing John was back by now. She had felt him but had decided to not bother him until she got back to the city. "Time to go, Alex."
Alex, who'd been running around in her sun dress, looked at her mom and shook her head. "No!" she said before she took off running. She didn't get far before she tripped and fell to her knees. Fred rushed over to her as the little girl started to cry.
"It's just a scraped knee, sweetie. Nothing to worry about. I'm sure Jennifer will fix you up," Fred said as she picked Alex up and kissed her cheek.
As Fred flew the jumper back to the city, Jennifer patched Alex up and gave the little girl some chocolate. They were just getting out of the jumper when Fred felt something strange come from John. Looking over at Jennifer and Laura, she shook her head.
"Something is going on," she said before they hurried out of the bay.
She knew John was going toward medical so they went in that direction. They met Carson and the rest of them in the hall, and the moment Fred saw Elizabeth on the gurney, her chest tightened. "What's going on?" she asked as she looked over at John.
