Fred wasn't sure if it'd been a good idea to bring Nancy up. After all, John never spoke about her and Fred was sure there was a good reason. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt him. However, when he sat Alex between them and turned toward her, Fred found herself mimicking his stance.
As he started to talk, Fred frowned. She felt awful - for the both of them. Marriage was hard, especially when it ended. And when he said he had gone away without telling anyone because he was basically an outsider with his family, it broke her heart. How could someone turn their back on family? And when he touched her face, Fred pressed against it.
She looked at him for a moment before she shifted Alex so she was on her lap. Leaning over, Fred pulled John to her and held him tightly. "I love you so much," she whispered. "And no matter what happens, I will never let you go. As for your family, Alex and I are your family now and we always will be." She pulled back and softly kissed him. "Thank you for telling me."
Suddenly, Alex started to tug on Fred's shirt. "I think someone's hungry," she said with a small laugh. She shifted Alex over to John's lap and pulled her shirt off. Once she was ready, she picked Alex up and started to feed her. Looking over at John, she smiled. "How was your day? Did the mission go all right?" she asked as she snuggled against him while she continued to feed Alex.
