John smiled down at Fred before looking back at their daughter lying on her chest. He couldn't believe it - their daughter was there. They were parents. This child would grow into the ten-year-old girl they had met several months ago. She would be sister to another little girl.
It was mind-boggling. And so right.
When Carson asked if he wanted to cut the umbilical cord, he nodded and took the scissors after sliding out a bit from behind Fred so he could snip the cord. Once that was done, and Carson had finished cleaning the baby up, John kissed Fred softly before going out to tell the others the news.
Seven pairs of eyes of eyes look up at him expectantly as he came out. "Alexandria Elizabeth Sheppard. Seven pounds six ounces. Mom and baby are healthy and fine."
A moment later, John was being besieged by hugs and congratulations. Soon, Carson came out and told him that Fred and the baby were settled in the other room. After giving Callie one last hug, John headed in to find Fred holding Alex. He stopped for a moment, looking at them. Despite everything he had seen in the galaxy, this probably had to be the most amazing sight he'd seen.
"Hey there," he said, walking over to the bed and sitting with her. Reaching over, he ran his finger gently over Alex's head. "Everyone sends their love. I think they're looking forward to meeting this one."
Leaning over, he brushed a gentle kiss to Alex's skull.
"How are you feeling?" he asked as he settled back with Fred again.
