The incident with their daughters wasn't forgotten. Over the next two months, Fred and Rodney devoted a lot of time with the relics, making sure they were charging properly. The last thing anyone wanted was for the relics to fail, which would put them all in danger. Fred didn't want Alex's actions to be in vain.
Soon, Carter was once again forcing them to have a day off. John had spoken to her about netting off some of the ocean on the mainland for swimming purposes, and she had agreed. With some help from Rodney and a few of the military guys, an area was netted off and they even put a makeshift dock for them to sit on.
At first, Fred balked at the idea of going swimming, knowing she couldn't find a bathing suit that would fit her pregnant body. Finally, Jennifer talked her into coming and even ordered her a cute sundress to wear. Soon, all of them were heading to the mainland to swim and spend the day off.
"Think he's bad about you inviting me?" Laura asked as she sat next to Fred and Jennifer on the dock.
Fred, who was dangling her feet over the edge and watching John and Ronon take turns tossing Callie into the water, shrugged. "Rodney's a big boy. Plus, he likes you," she said.
"Really?" she asked.
"Oh, yeah," Jennifer said with a nod before she reached behind her and pulled some cans of soda out of the cooler. She handed one to Fred and one to Laura. "He keeps looking over here and checking you out."
"Are you three talking about Rodney?" Teyla asked as she sat on the other side of Laura.
"Sure am," Jennifer said as she turned her attention to watch Ronon.
Fred leaned back a little and looked over at John and smiled before looking over at Rodney, who was staring at Laura. Snorting, she shook her head and opened her can of soda.
