John's brows shot up his forehead when Meredith said she was named after Rodney. For a moment, he wasn't sure where to look - Rodney, who looked like a deer caught in a pair of headlights, or Mere, who talking a mile a minute. He wanted to ask Rodney exactly what his name was, but he also wanted to ask who Molly was. It was apparent this little girl had taken after him when it came to flying - although he could definitely see Fred in the way she spoke.
In the end, he ended up watching as everyone else talked. Rodney's named really was Meredith. He and Fred had two daughters. Who apparently were very much sisters.
And who had to get back to their own time.
"Mom and Dad will be there," Alex promised. When Meredith lifted her head and shot her sister a look that said she didn't believe her, she looked over at John. "Dad, tell her you will."
Nodding, John shifted Meredith a little and hitched her up so he could look in her eyes. "Your mom and I will be there. And I'll have those grey hairs because of Uncle Rodney. And when I see you, I'm going to do this." He brushed his nose against hers, causing her to giggle.
"You do that all the time!" she told him.
"Then see," he said. He looked over at Alex. "How are you getting back?"
Alex held up another piece of paper. "Gate address. Our way to get home is there," she said. "And before you ask, you can't come with us. We'll be fine. Promise."
Nodding, John reached out to take Alex's hand while still carrying Meredith. Alex took her mom's hand in her other, and they walked back up to the Gate room together, the others trailing behind.
