John looked over as Chase went out to the balcony to talk to Fred. He knew that she was in labor, having felt the pain she couldn't block all day, but he was starting to worry since her water hadn't broken yet. He hoped that nothing was wrong. He didn't think he could take a repeat of what had happened with Chase even if this pregnancy had gone a lot better for her.
"I don't want to eat," Alex complained, so John turned to her, crossing his arms.
"You need to eat before we take you over to Aunt Sam and Uncle Daniel's," he told her. "Otherwise you'll be hungry for the rest of the night."
"Don't want to go. Want to be there with Mommy and you," she said, kicking her legs.
"You can't," John told her just as Fred came in with Chase. Reaching over, he wrapped his arm around her and returned her kiss before Alex continued on about going to Sam and Daniel's. With a sigh, he rubbed Fred's lower back. It was bad enough that their youngest was being stubborn. They didn't need their oldest being difficult as well.
Looks like we don't have a choice now, John told her with a laugh as he reached up to run his hand over his wife's hair. I'm sure we'll do fine.
Alex came out and dumped her bag on the ground before standing there with her hands on her hips. John looked over at her with raised eyebrows. "Did you actually pack clothes or just toys?" he asked. "Because if you didn't pack clothes, you'll have to wear what you're wearing now the entire time you're with Sam and Daniel. We're going to tell them not to let you come back and get anything else."
With a sigh, Alex picked up her bag and went back into her room. Chase came over and wrapped his arms around his mother.
"Everything's going to be okay," he said. "Alex is just grumpy, and Meredith will be here soon."
