When Evan saw the trampled plants, he automatically reached down to his thigh holster, and pulled out his handgun. Maybe it seemed a little extreme, but he would do anything to protect Kyri, and something wasn't right. He could tell it by just looking at her. As they walked to her village, he kept an eye out for anything that might hurt them.
Looking at Kyri, he hurried to her uncle's hut with her, and stood back as they hugged. When she moved closer to him, Evan slipped an arm around her. And when her uncle said some had been drained of their blood, Evan's eyes widened.
"Do you think it's the rebel Sangui clan?" he asked.
"Yes. I do not know of any other creature who could drain blood like that," the older man said with a worried look. "I have asked the rest of the villagers to hide in the nearby caves. We can not lose anymore."
Evan nodded. "I'm going back to the Gate, and contacting Atlantis. We've been looking for the clan for a while now. I know Colonel Sheppard and his team would want to help," he said.
"Very well," Latro said.
With a deep breath, Evan turned toward Kyri. "I won't be gone long. Stay here with your uncle," he said before he handed his handgun to her, knowing he had his P-90, too. He leaned forward, and softly kissed her. "I love you. Use that if you need to."
And with that, Evan turned and hurried out of the hut.
