John looked up at Fred as she assured him she was fine, still wondering what had happened there in the lab. Her explanation didn't sit right with him for some reason - they worked on an off-world expedition, and what they were doing wasn't exactly public knowledge. How could it be a show up for Mark to come here after her crystals? Unless he wanted to adapt them as a power source on Earth. That could be it, he supposed, but he wasn't sure. With Harris involved, he thought there had to be more than that.
He continued to hold her, however, until Carter told him that he needed to go meet with General Landry when he arrived. He didn't want to leave Fred, not after everything that had happened, but he knew that he was still the commanding military officer who had just been involved in a hostage situation.
When Teyla offered to stay with Fred, John nodded, and after giving her a kiss and hugging her tightly, he left the lab with Carter. They made their way to the Gate room, and soon, Landry came through with several SPs. John and Carter saluted him before they headed up the stairs to the Operations meeting room, where they filled him in on everything that had happened.
Finally, Harris, his face bruised and swollen, was brought into the room. Landry didn't say anything to begin with, instead just staring at him. Harris stared back until finally, he seemed to break down, and he explained he part in the whole thing. Several Pentagon official weren't happy with John's appointment to Commanding Military Officer of Atlantis, so he had decided to prove that John was not fit on the exploratory mission. He then pointed to his face as if to prove his point.
Landry just stared at him. "Considering he thought your son-in-law had murdered his wife and child, and you were holding a gun on his team, I think he had more than ample reason for that." He stood up. "General Harris, I am placing you under arrest. You are to be taken back to Earth for court martial on multiple charges to be filed later."
After a final bit of debriefing, Carter told John to head back to his quarters. Nodding, exhaustion setting in, he saluted and left the room.
