While Daniel went to see what was going on with Daniel, Molly walked over to the bed and rested her head on Sam's stomach as she had taken do doing.
"I can hear her moving," she said, looking up at Sam. She looked down at her stomach and placed her hand on it. "I can't wait until you're here, CJ."
Smiling, Sam ruffled Molly's hair. "I know she's going to love having you as a big sister."
Just then, Daniel came back in the room to tell them what was happening. Sam felt her eyes widen. "You know, I don't think he's had luck whenever anyone has given birth around here," she said with a small snort.
Carson came in to check on her again before heading out again briefly to get some things together for the birth. The contractions were coming closer and closer together, and Sam was pretty sure that CJ was going to come before the two hours were up.
And sure enough, when Carson returned to check her again, he looked up at them. "I think this wee one is in a hurry to get here. You're fully effaced, Sam," he told them.
Sam nodded, gritting her teeth as another contraction hit her. "I had a feeling."
"All right, let's get you sitting up, and then you'll be ready to push on the next contraction," Carson said. "Daniel, you can sit behind to help her. Molly, stay with them. Your mum could use the moral support."
Once they were ready, Sam leaned against Daniel as another contraction hit.
"Push, Sam," Carson told her.
Sam did, gritting her teeth and letting out a cry as she bore down. Before long, she could feel a strange sensation of pain and relief as her daughter was born.
