Caitlin looked at her husband, not knowing what to say. When he started to tell her about his relationship with his own parents, she felt her throat tightened. How could anyone treat their child like that. She knew what it was like, though, and she wrapped her arms around him. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
She knew she needed to talk about what had happened so she pulled back and looked at him. "When we thought CT was dead everything changed. My father holded himself up in CT's room and my mom gave me these accusing looks. She never said the words but I knew she blamed me somehow," Caitlin quietly said as tears filled her eyes. "When my mom got fed up with my dad, she decided to leave. She didn't want others to think she was a bad mom so she took me with and put me in the best schools. She never did it for me. It was always for herself."
Reaching up Caitlin roughly wiped the tears from her eyes and took a shuddering breath. "Even though he drives me crazy sometimes, I'm glad my dad is back in my life. He was the only one who cared. Even when he was away on missions he made sure I knew how much he loved me." Caitlin looked down at her hands and shook her head. "I figured this was going to happen someday so it's not surprised. I'm just scared. I don't want to be like her, Rodney. I don't want to ever treat our children like that."
Caitlin let out a soft sob and buried her face against Rodney's chest.
