Caitlin sat down on the bed and picked up the phone. It'd been a long time since she had called her mother but she still remembered the number by heart. After dialing, she pressed the receiver to her ear and waited.
Her stepfather answered and after a brief conversation, he handed the phone over to her mother. Caitlin knew the conversation wasn't going to be easy since they last time they had spoke it hadn't turned out well. But she decided to try. She was her mother and Caitlin believed she had the right to know her grandchildren.
The conversation was fine until Caitlin told her mother about Rodney. Not everyone understood the relationship and her mother was no different. Caitlin tried her best to explain things to her mother but Sarah didn't want to hear it. She told Caitlin she was not welcome in her house or life before she hung up.
"My mom doesn't want us around. She doesn't want me or the girls in her life...at all. So I guess we can leave for Vancouver tomorrow," she said as she squirmed out of her husbands' embraces and stood. "I think I'm going to go get a can of root beer for Erin. I promised I'd let her have some on the trip."
