Very well, Sam told Daniel. She sensed that he wanted to stay in bed, and as good as that sounded, she knew that they both knew it wasn't possible. There was too much to do that day, starting with their talk with Kaevan and the Amicitia ceremony.
"Breakfast sounds great," she replied, realizing that she was starving, especially since they hadn't really had anything the night before. As Daniel slipped out of bed, she turned over and pushed herself up, watching him while he moved across the room. Quite a lot, actually.
After getting dressed, Sam braided her hair back before grabbing her jacket and slipping it on. She then walked down with Daniel to the dining hall, and when they saw John and Fred, she wondered if they should say anything to them about what had happened or wait until after they had spoken to Kaevan.
Of course, Fred asked about the ceremony, so they did have to say something.
"Is that different good or different bad?" John asked in response to Daniel's answer.
Sam returned Daniel's shrug before speaking up, "Good. They're coming back here this morning for the ceremony to make our alliance with them official."
"Well, that's good news." John looked back and forth between them before taking a bite of his eggs. "Did something happen?"
"It just...wasn't what we expected," Sam said. "There's something we have to talk to Kaevan about."
They were just finishing their breakfast when Chuck called to let them know that Kaevan was coming through the Gate, so after they cleared their table, they headed up to Operations together. Kaevan had a satchel with him and smiled when he saw them.
"Good morning," he greeted. "My father and a few others will be here in a bit. I need to set up some items for the ceremony beforehand, though."
"Of course," Sam said, pointing up toward the briefing room. Once they were up there, she looked over at Daniel. "Kaevan, can we ask you something? We...after we took the tonic last night, Daniel and I found out that we..."
Before she could even finish wording her question, Kaevan walked over and touched Sam's head and then Daniel's, a look of understanding crossing his features. "My father said he thought this had happened to you," he said. "When Lykaios become adults, they will often find their mates through something we call imprinting. It's knowing through all five senses that this is who you'll spend your life with, and what that happens, an unbreakable connection is made between the mates. Usually, it doesn't happen to those who take the tonic, but it has happened once before. And it appears that it's happened to you."
