It was well past midnight and into the wee hours of the morning before Douglass finally made it home. He'd been seen by medical, filled out his preliminary report about the incident, and taken a shower to scrub off the blood. It was a habit of his. He refused to bring any of his work home with him. He always kept a spare suit at work for that purpose. There was no need for his children to know the kinds of things he had to deal with on a daily basis. After checking in on each of the three children tucked in their beds, he made his way to his bedroom.
"You're home late," came the quiet sleepy voice from the bed.
"Yeah. Go back to sleep, Amy."
"Long day?"
Shauri sat down on the bed to take off his shoes with a sigh.
"You could say that," he said. His wife knew that he worked for division of special forces, though she had no idea what he dealt with, other than it was dangerous. "A bit of a rough day. No lasting damage though."
"I should hope not. Special forces or not, Douglass, the kids and I need you."
He stripped down and slid under the covers, wrapping his arms around his wife.
"Don't worry, Amy. I don't plan on dying anytime soon," he said as he kissed Amy before closing his eyes. If Satou was still in medical tomorrow, Douglass would pay him a visit, but for now Douglass was content to fall asleep at home, bandaged, but with his wife and children.
