Who: Michael Satou, Douglass Shauri, and a mysterious guest
What: Taking out a threat after long weeks of observation and research.
When: Saturday night, September 19, 2009
Where: A flat in Brixton.
Warnings: Blood, guts, fighting.
Status: Complete.
Shauri glanced over at Satou as he parked the SUV behind a building near the suspect's flat. Each day they parked in a different spot, but several days of surveillance had given them more than enough evidence.
"Our goal is simply to bring him in. Somerset and Burbage are none too pleased with how things have been going. You know Somerset's 'force when necessary' philosophy. But no matter what, no escapes. We can't afford that right now."
"And if he chooses to resist and bring in any of the surrounding residents?" Satou asked. That was one of the main problems with dealing with this specimen. While Granger at least seemed so whipped that she wouldn't have harmed a kitten, they didn't know how this man would react and after watching him for so long, it was obvious that he didn't really frequent unpopulated areas.
"No civilian casualties. If it looks like he's going to harm someone or goes for his wand, we take him out," Shauri said as he strapped on all his weapons. Two pistols, two knives, a stun gun and then some other surprises. "You ready?"
Checking to make sure that his weapons were easily accessible, but not completely visible in case they were spotted by civilians on the way to the building, Satou finally nodded as he pulled his gloves tighter onto his hands. "Ready, sir."
Shauri pulled on his jacket and adjusted his sunglasses before getting out of the car.
"We cannot fail," was all he said as he led the way to the building. Pulling out a key, he unlocked the door and made his way up to the top level flat. Unlocking the door, he checked to make sure the flat was empty before motioning to Satou to follow him in.
"He should be home soon enough. Find a place to conceal yourself."
Satou did a sweep of the flat too when Shauri motioned him in. Frowning slightly at the decor, he shook his head as he pulled out his stun gun and tried to find a proper place to hide. "Doesn't look like the flat of someone living on a his wages," he muttered quietly.
"Haven't met many poor wizards. Bet they probably embezzle money from the rest of us," Shauri said as he pulled his stun gun and readied his pistol and silencer. He wasn't taking any chances. He tried to fit into the coat closet, but it wouldn't fit well. Moving around, he placed himself behind the foyer wall.
"Or just make it appear out of thin air," Satou said with a note of disgust in his voice as he crouched down behind a couch. "That is if they don't just turn random kittens into money."
Shauri made a face.
"I have no desire to know what they do with kittens. Or any other small animals."
Hearing the outside door to the building slam, Shauri held up his hand for Satou to be quiet as he pressed himself up against the wall. A few moments later footsteps were heard outside the door.
The agents waited until the man had come in and locked the door before Shauri moved behind him.
"If we could just ask you a few questions," Shauri said in his deep voice, restraints in one hand and stun gun in the other. Shauri barely finished his words before there was a flash of red light that went wide and created a hole in the hall closet.
As soon as the first flash of light shot across the room, Satou opened the communicator and told the people in the van to turn the device on. It was only a few seconds before he felt the weird tingle in his mouth that always happened around the devices. Satou slid out from his hiding spot, firing off shots off with the stun gun as Shauri dove at the suspect, hoping to take him down. The room lit up in jarring colors and swiftly changing shadows as spells whizzed past. It was hard to focus on avoiding all of them, so Satou kept his focus on the green lights, knowing those to be the worst of the bunch. Jumping out of the way, he swore as he felt first the stun gun rip from his grasp and then after a few shots from the silenced handgun, a bolt of light causing the weapon to become so hot that he couldn't hold onto it, even with the glove that protected his skin. Dodging for cover, he shook his hand to stop the burning sensation before going for his swords.
Shauri found himself in the difficult position of wrestling with the suspect while trying to avoid Satou's bullets. He knew the kevlar would protect his vital organs but he didn't fancy being shot even if it was non-lethal. Taking a spell to his previously broken wrist, he dropped the stun gun he had and his hold on the suspect momentarily slackened. Before he knew it a force had thrown him across the room, causing his head to go through the plaster wall. As his body fell to the floor, Shauri felt pain radiating through his body.
Satou moved as soon as Shauri was out of the wizard's grasp. Swords out, he darted behind the wizard, hoping that a quick stab could end this fight quickly while he was distracted, especially as there was no telling what the demon had done to Shauri. Lashing out, he swore under his breath as the man shifted, the swords catching jacket and shirt and maybe flesh, but certainly not enough to take down a wizard. Ducking under the man's arm as he turned around, a spell sizzling past, he sliced a sword towards his chest, causing the wizard to jump back before focusing his aim on trying to damage the wand arm. The slice at the chest proved a bad move though as it gave the wizard more room to cast his magic. Hate rolled through him at the look on the wizard's face before he felt sick at the sound of something actually ripping through his kevlar vest and the pain slicing through his chest and shoulder, causing him to drop one of his swords. His vision blurring in pain, he sucked in a deep breath to steel himself to attack again. But before he could raise his sword, he felt something crash into him and only vaguely recognized the chair he had been hiding behind before it slammed him hard against the wall.
Shauri's vision was swimming as he drew one of his semi-automatic pistols with his off hand. As soon as Satou was clear of the suspect, Shauri fired at the the suspect. One bullet made its home in the wall and the other hit the suspect in the knee cap. Shauri gave a pained laugh as the suspect cried out and cursed. That cursed wand was pointed at him again and red light emerged, causing the wall behind him to fracture and crumble. Rolling out of the way of the blast just in time, Shauri emptied the rest of the clip in the suspects direction, his shots catching limbs and the wall going wide as chunks of the wall behind him continued to fall. Somerset was going to kill them and Shauri knew they were running out of time. Hearing the wizard utter something that sounded like 'Leviticus', Shauri cursed as he felt himself flung up into the air and flipped upside down. Okay. This was not good. As in, possible head injury plus inversion meant more of a struggle to keep his vision from swimming and maintain focus. Not to mention the spell had caused him to drop his pistol before reloading. It was now out of his reach on the floor while he hung suspended in the air.
Managing to push the heavy chair off of him, Satou didn't like how the room tilted as he tried to sit up. His right hand slid slightly across the wooden floor, his hand slick with blood as he pushed himself up to his feet. Either the room was spinning more than he thought or Shauri was really honestly upside down... The wizard was muttering something and raising his wand to do something to Shauri. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a strip of paper, hoping it would work even if it was a bit bloodied up. His left hand gripping his sword tightly, he threw the paper at the wizard, relieved that it managed to make the distance and hit the wizard's back.
"AkuryĆ Taisan!" he growled out between gritted teeth at the pain that the movement had shot through his shoulder.
The wizard turned, looking first down at the bloodied paper on the floor and then back up at him, the expression on his face a mix of annoyance and disbelief as he slowly faced Satou.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" the wizard said with a laugh that made the hair on the back of Satou's neck stand up. "You think a little strip of paper will save you from a powerful dark-"
Satou's distraction was the chance Shauri needed to regroup. Though upsidedown, he found he could still move his hands. While Satou distracted the wizard, Shauri drew his Glock from its holster and pointed it at the wizard. There was no silencer on this gun and he knew he needed to make every shot count. Steadying one hand with the other, he focused and pressed the trigger. The thin wooden stick clattered against the hardwood floor and there was a large thump as Shauri fell to the ground, the spell that had been keeping him levitated having been ended.
For his part, the wizard fell to the ground, blood filling his mouth as he turned to look at Shauri and tried to utter some inadequate words before his hands fell to his sides and his body went still.
Shauri met Satou's eyes across the destroyed room.
"Somerset's going to tan our hides."
Shifting his sword into his right hand, Satou pressed his left hand hard against as much of the gash across his chest and shoulder that he could. "We got him though," he muttered as he walked over and kicked the wand farther from the body. "I don't fancy this demon waking up though while we're taking him back... Somerset would tan our hides even worse if that happened..."
Shauri chuckled as he got to his feet.
"How do you plan on preventing that?" he asked with a feral grin.
A grin to match Shauri's slowly spread across Satou's lips as he held up his sword. "Can't come back from the dead if you have no head," he pointed out. "If it works on those bloodsuckers, it must work on these demons."
Shauri chuckled as he got to his feet.
"The honour is yours. Unless you need a hand. You look a little worse for wear."
Satou hated to admit defeat, but he sighed as he nodded his head. "I'm down full use of an arm here," he muttered. "So it'll likely go faster if we both work at it."
Shauri nodded.
"We'll get you a medic, Satou. Not having you die because of some fucking wizard on my watch," Shauri said as he came around and place his hand over Satou's, lending his strength to the Asian man's.
"One.. Two.. Three.."
The sword was, of course, a well made Japanese katana and with the force of two special agents, even though they were weakened, the metal cut through flesh easily and the dark haired head rolled to the side.
Shauri picked up one of the wizard's dishtowels to clean of Satou's blade for him before calling their backup team.
"This is Shauri. We need a medic. And a body collection team. Name of deceased - Theodore Nott."
