What: A phone call turns into Hermione deciding that Samrat needs her assistance. She follows him to a medical visit with a pair of Majd's allies.

The mobile rang itself off the desk just as Hermione thought she had the bug figured out. "Oh, sod off!" she told it angrily as she picked it up to answer. "Hermione Granger, Otter Consulting; may I be of service?" she said into it, in a voice that betrayed no ire whatever.

Who: Adrian Pucey and Clodagh Sparks
What: Another chance meeting that results in Adrian catching Clodagh up on the war. She realizes, as he tells her that muggles are going after wizards, that she has unwittingly been involved in some very bad things.
When: Monday, April 12, 2009
Where: the Tube, then Adrian's clinic
Rating: PG for language
As usual, the Tube was so crowded at this hour that it made Clodagh slightly nauseous. Her fingers wrapped around the handle overhead, hips buckling as the floor lurched underneath. She inhaled, smelling sweat and dirt and smoke on the bodies pressed against her own as the lights began to flicker on the train.
Then they went out.
"Oh, fuck-" She snapped, unable to see much past the faint outline of her arm, grasping out to try and push her way to the wall. "Another goddamn blackout? I don't believe it."

Who: Cho Chang and Samrat Amarnath
What: Friends of a friend meet and engage in discussion of the wizarding world and current politics, among other things.
Where: London, England
When: early March 2009

On days like this, Cho reflected, you began to wonder if winter would ever end. There'd been snow in Devon a few nights before, and today London was bright and mercilessly cold. Once inside the cafe, she ordered a pot of tea before she even sat down at her usual booth table.
Hermione had told her that this Samrat character was someone she ought to meet, because she'd find him interesting, and no, not in that way (she had hastened to add), but because he had an interesting perspective on current events, and it would probably be beneficial for them to compare notes. Apparently Hermione had said something similar to Sam; in the end, Cho had rung him up and they'd made plans to meet for lunch. The cafe she'd selected was a small neighbourhood place not far from her home in Kensal Green. It was a simple place, nothing posh about it, but one of the waitresses knew her well and the clientele, most of which had been coming there since well before Kensal Green's increasing gentrification, understood discretion and kept out of each other's business.
( That what we really need now is to talk, but also to really listen to one another. ) |
