the olympics
Opening ceremonies for the Olympics are set to be this Friday. If I were really really REALLY productive, I'd come up with a proper schedule for the games, or at least when the major events would be, but um... I don't have that kind of time, unfortunately (even if I feel like I OUGHT to be doing it because it would help).

Maxxie is road-tripping to Edmonton and has managed to get passes to some events. She's using her folks' money for this rather than Anhalt funds. She's taking Tom with her -- he doesn't get a choice. She's renting a car and says SHE is driving because if someone ELSE drives all that way she might go completely and utterly INSANE. :)

Is anyone else from the existing group going to join them? I haven't posted something IC, but I think most folks can assume she has mentioned it and if they would like to come along, they are welcome to. How many people decide to go will define how large a car she rents.

Jason has proposed a one-shot character plotline, which brings up the question of International politics and what would happen to a wild card on Canadian soil, plus what nationality is the newly turned card and can they go home safely?

For those who would note, Maxxie does not refer to her ex-teammates as friends. There's probably only one girl left on the team who competed in 2092 with her as 20 is pushing it for a woman's gymnastic's career. There are probably boys on the team from 2092, though, as they compete far longer than the women do.

She will get tickets to other events than gymnastics (it's like y'know, touching that sore tooth for her, that she still HAS to go watch the women's all-around) if people want to attend those. She DEFINITELY wants to see a basketball game or three.

There are two weeks of Olympics, so plenty of time to have threads around it. I'm up for anything.

Tom will go along happily, of course.

Zadkiel can't - he has no passport.

Alec is quite sure no one wants him along, so he'll sit tight in Seattle.

Quick Q: Broadcast Live from Alberta?

I'm assuming you mean the radio show, and I don't see why not, as long as they make sure to bring along a laptop that has the programs they need or whatever to broadcast.

Maxxie's totally up for helping with this, although her talking to people is likely not brilliant. But she'll supply any information. And this could possibly be a way to illuminate the issues and dangers around wild cards if something goes poorly with wild cards being found on olympic teams?

I'd normally be all over this but I can't really bounce in until after I finish papers this weekend since I have 2 essays for a publisher due, um, Thursday and 2 school assignments left. So I'll definitely catch up but I'm going to refrain on jumping in just yet because I don't want to slow people down.

But at the very least, next week, I'll make sure my characters make some noise about it. Even if it's on TV. *g*

Another Quick Q: JJS was mentioned as a Joker advocacy group in the newspaper -- what do the initials stand for?

Jokers' Justice Society... I was lazy and stole it from WC canon.

If anyone wants to drive/fly out to join them later, that's cool too. And if RL is busy and you can't jump in, that's cool too.

Though if someone has time- what might help for us Olympic ignoramuses (okay, this is probably just me) would be a link or just a list of what sports they're playing? I think a schedule's a lot of work and maybe overkill but if there's any sort of weird sport they're playing, like hover-bochi ball or something, might be good to know.

Man, I hadn't even thought of weird sports... I suspect the extreme sports have added some crazy shit (hover-boarding, things like that?). I'll try to think, but am also willing to take any suggestions people have. :)

Oooh, I bet the judging in surfing is as contested as gymnastics. :) It's half style!

I'm away this weekend for a wedding, so JYT won't be going. I'll try and get something together for the one-shots. Depends on my schedule next week, I'm not sure I'll have time to get things figured out though. We'll see.

Okies! They go for two weeks (opening on the 16th, closing ceremonies on the Sunday after two weeks, so I think that's August 1?), so there's time later in them too, if you've got more time then.
