Hunt the Hare contacts
We are getting contacted about next steps for this plot - we wanted people to have time to get organised, which, yay for happening! - and now we're curious to know who is talking to whom for information about Richard Barton.

If you're using a personal contact, let us know who they are and where they're at and we'll let you know if they know anything useful. If you're looking in a general area for information - the two groups at this point seem to be heading for Jokertown and for the last known address - who is your character likely to talk to? What are they likely to do if, for example, they get access to Barton's former place? If you're hacking, what sites are you visiting?

In other words, tell us what you're doing and we'll tell you what you're finding out from it. Feel free to make things like locations and websites up - just tell us a bit about them, because if you're looking on allwildcardsmustdie.com, you're going to get different information than if you're on undergroundrailwayreturns.com, and, as ever, we like player-generated world data even more than we like cookies and puppies.

Also! As your search evolves - you talk to the nurse who tells you to talk to the bar owner who points out that the fish-throwers might know something, who say no, but they saw that guy talking to the balloon dancer - feel free to keep asking for more information. We will continue to happily generate it, and give it to you as quickly as we can.

Primary things Alec is doing to try and get information:

He will try to hack the closed circuit television surveillance footage from the hospital, trying to determine if anyone came to visit Richard while he was in the hospital who wasn't registered. Particularly of interest would be anyone who visited soon before his departure from the hospital against medical advice.

He is also looking into his phone records, emails records, other futuristic means of communication, bank records, etc., from around when he was attacked to current, to see if there is any activity.

The cameras reveal nothing at all out of the ordinary.

The only activity that seems at all suspicious in the financial records are a deposit of cash - uncommon in this society, but not totally illegal (yet) - and a couple of phone calls around that same timeframe to numbers that are untraceable by ordinary hacking methods. He does get the suspicion that there might be more available on them, but it's going to take a bit more work - what's the decision?

It's what he was brought here to do, as far as he's concerned, so he'll keep picking at it until he gets something or reaches a complete dead end.

He'll also try to get into the footage from the bank where the deposit was made to see if it was Richard himself who made the deposit, or someone in proxy.

Bank footage is completely unaccessible. There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary about that; the bank has a lot of customers, and a lot of legally sensitive activities, and prefers to keep their footage entirely locked up. They actually still record on standalone tapes, similar to old VHS tapes, and there's no stream to hack.

The other information is going to take quite a bit of time to find the answer to, but if Alec ever feels like giving up that's pretty much about the time that something just falls into place - only to lead him down another trail. This is, very clearly, information that someone wants found, but they wanted to be sure that whoever looks for it really, really wants it.

After a LOT of work, one of the numbers turns out to be registered to Thu Hien who ... may not exist. Or might - there's more of that feeling of deliberate planting here. What's Alec's next move?

Well, first he folds about a dozen paper cranes and tears them into confetti in a fit of rage.

Once that bit of business is taken care of, he'll start tracking down what he can on Thu Hien. Standard routes - employment records, social security files, credit reports, DMV, telephone/email/twitter/social networking/whatever else is out there. He figures it'll have to turn up something somewhere if someone is laying him a breadcrumb trail.

What I'm kind of thinking right now is that it's time for the searching group to get back together and put heads together - see my reply to Deb further down the thread. After that, you will receive further information, after you leave $1000 in small, unmarked bills, in a black bag under the yellow cinderblock two lightposts down from the corner of Pike and 7th at 2:11 am precisely.

(I am kind of punchy and it is kind of slightly late, obvs.)

Tom will be going with JT to Richard's last known address. He'll try to talk to neighbors, see if anyone can say when they saw him last, who he was friends with, where he hung out, where he worked, things like that, and then look into following up on the most promising leads.

The neighbours know nothin', seen nothin', heard nothin', and all they know is that Barton was quiet and kept to himself.

Tom and JT might reasonably get the suspicion that the neighbours don't trust them and would say the same thing no matter who was asking.

JT had the same idea as Tom, but if that dosen't pan out next would be to try and get into the apartment. Dose he have a roommate? If not, is the place locked? Is there a security system? He dose not want to get in trouble, this is mostly info gathering.

For the record... if they call for help, either Maxxie or Mickey would be able to get into that apartment. Well, as long as they get Mickey, because when Mickey's not Mickey, he also can't walk through walls.

The place is locked up tighter than a tick. However, one of the neighbours unbends enough to mention a roommate that she thinks might work at one of the design studios on the Hill.

They'll probably get further trying to get into the place, but it's not going to be easy unless they get Maxxie or Mickey to help. Or they can pick the lock in full view of the neighbours - gotta love security buildings.

They have recruited both Maxxie and Mickey to get them in, so there'll be four people looking for anything they can find that might point them in the direction of where he might be now.

Mickey will walk through the door, make sure he's not materializing IN anything, then solidify and open the door for the others.

There's not really a lot to find. It kind of just looks like two people left one day and haven't been back, but they didn't expect to be gone. There's no real sign of disturbance and no evidence of packing up.

However, there are also about eight sets of ID documents with different pictures. One is clearly Barton - it even has his name on it - but the others are strangers.

Is there anything else you guys would check or is it time to hook up with Alec and put some heads together?

Under a different name, yes. But if he takes the info with him, it'll be easy to put together - the information Alec found included pictures.

Now that Alec has the picture of the ID, and has been able to match it up (at least he's pretty sure that they're the same person, since the photo quality wasn't the greatest), what is he able to find when looking into the name that's on the ID?

Del

Woot! Del is probably going to use a number of connections. The first place he's going to go is his former abode - think the sort of environment that RENT happened in, generally people in their 20's, on the low side of the economic scale trying to get by. Not necessarily all artsy people (a departure from RENT :P) but generally people who enjoy their community.

It might be fun if chatting with neighborhood people lead them to say: hey, you should check out the intake dude at the clinic and they get led back to Zadkiel... :P

This guy, as far as the Del's former abodepersons are concerned, doesn't exist. A couple of them have heard of him from the newspaper article, and one thinks he might've seen the guy at the Market, but nothing concrete, and nothing really like a lead into the clinic - Barton was taken to Swedish, not to a clinic, so nothing really there.

I'm not sure that this is actually responding to what you're having Del do, so feel free to clarify your comment as whatever I've said stops making sense. *g*

I did remember that Barton was taken to the Swedish, but I guess I was presuming that if you were a Joker in need of non-emergent care (as anyone might over the course of their life) you'd go the type of place Zadkiel works in. Or since he checked out against advice, maybe he'd gone to a place he'd felt more comfortable. Not to say this changes your answer, but just clarifying where I was going with that train of thought.

Question: seeing the guy at the Market = Pike or is there like a floating secret Joker Market? Because apparently my brain lives in London Below.

With his fellow apartment dwellers being unhelpful, Del waits to see what Jael comes up with.

Oh good, I was hoping that made sense, because I wasn't fully sure I understood what you were asking. :)

Actually, this guy seems to have disappeared into thin air. But yeah, the Market does = Pike Place (though we will totally steal the idea of a floating Joker market asap, because we like taking clever ideas and filing off the serial numbers and pretending we came up with them, clever geniuses that we are.)

What I'm trying to push right now is for the group to reconnect and put their various leads together in such a way that we get to the weekend and I have more time to hand out information. Everyone's at a solid point, though; it's probably time to talk and figure out what everyone's found out.
