"He's going to hate it. He probably doesn't like green beans," he muttered to himself. There was no time to change anything. Almost as if on cue a knock came on the door. Louis went over to open it and smiled. "Hi, come on in. Have a seat at the table." He closed the door and made his way over to the table and sat after Regulus." He was nervous. Very nervous and not entirely sure why. A little bit of nerves yes, but not like this. "I hope it's okay and you like it. I've never...gotten food for a human." Other than snacks, they were easy.
The walk was nice. With the weather turning it was getting warmer. While he had already looked up at the sky when he didn’t have his memories he wondered if Louis would still like to go stargazing with him. It was a question for later. He knocked on the door and waited for the other to answer. “Hello, Louis.” Regulus said, offering the vampire a smile as he stepped inside the apartment. “How has your night been? I hope you didn’t go through too much trouble for me. I would’ve been happy with just whatever fast food place was still delivering.” He really didn’t expect too much but it seemed as if Louis had put some thought into this meal. It smelled good though. He moved to take a seat at the table, smiling at the set up. “It looks wonderful.”
Louis would not have gotten fast food for this night. That was something humans got when they were in a hurry or didn’t feel like cooking. There was no rush on this night. He wanted it to be relaxing and comfortable. “Thank you. I hope you like green beans. The place I ordered from didn’t have fried potato’s. You’ll have to let me know if there is a place that has them and delivers. Please,” he gestured toward the plate, “eat and enjoy.” There was something else the vampire needed to talk to Regulus about, but it would wait until after he’d finished dinner.
“It wasn’t that exciting. I slept in and spent most of the day outdoors gathering what supplies I could find. Then I went home, took a nap, and showered before I came over.” He said before digging in as Louis motioned towards the food. It felt weird to eat while the other didn’t but, he assumed, food wouldn’t do the vampire any good. That was a shame, really, because it was good. Regulus would have to remember to get the name of the restaurant before he left. “Green beans are fine.” He laughed, picking up a forkful and eating them to show that he had no problem with the vegetable. “But I’ll let you know if I find a place that makes their potatoes the way I like them. If all else fails I’ll gladly settle for chips.”
"Sounds like it was a good productive day." Louis only watched a few moments as Regulus began to eat. He imagined no one liked being stared at while being the only one eating and he didn't want to make him uncomfortable. So he looked around then back to the younger man while they talked. "If you do find one perhaps we can go there sometime." The vampire chuckled. "I've never had french fries, but I have had fried potato's back when I could eat food. They're very good. We would have baked chicken, fried potato's, cornbread and corn on the cob. That was one of my favorite meals."
He was glad that Louis didn’t stare at him while he ate. He liked having the vampire’s attention but it was awkward to eat in front of another person. “I would like that.” He agreed. Maybe Louis couldn’t actually eat with him but they could still go out together. He would just have to make sure that whatever place he found was open late. “You know… I don’t think I’ve ever had cornbread.” The rest of what Louis described as one of his favorite meals sounded familiar enough. “Maybe I should look for a place that offers that or try to make it myself.” How hard could that be? “Can you eat regular food or is that impossible?” He had been making assumptions up until now but it was probably better to ask.
"I know it's awkward to eat with someone who isn't eating, but I'm glad you like the idea. Maybe you'll get used to it over time." The vampire had never been in such a situation. He'd never really had friends as a vampire let alone human ones. His mouth fell open in surprise. "You've never had cornbread? It's so delicious. Especially fresh and hot from the oven with butter on it." He could almost still smell and taste it. "I would be surprised if anywhere around here makes cornbread. Unless it's a mom and pop type family restaurant. It's relatively easy to make. If you do ever make it, will you let me know? I'd love to just smell it." He laughed and shook his head. "I know, that seems weird." But it was what he could still do when it came to food. "No, I can't eat regular food. It would make me very sick." And he would leave it at that because one didn't talk about such things while anyone was eating.
It was a little awkward but it was just something he would learn to get over. He actually did want to go out to places with Louis. It would just take a little getting used to. “I’m from London.” He said with a laugh, reminding Louis of that fact. “It’s just not something we have. Your reaction, however, makes me think I need to change that. Soon.” He would have to look for a recipe some morning. “I’ll bring some once I learn to make it. Though it will be a shame that you won’t be able to tell me if I got it right.” At least he knew now that Louis couldn’t eat normal food. It would save him from doing something silly like trying to give him food gifts or insisting that he try something. Regulus finished up his meal and gently pushed his plate away from him. “Thank you for that. I can clean up if you’d give me a moment.” Louis had fed him, he shouldn’t have to worry about cleaning up too.
“I remember where you’re from, Regulus. Don’t feel bad because I can’t taste it. I think it’s really sweet that you’d even make it.” He truly was a kind soul. He knew the two of them shared hidden scars, wounds that couldn’t be seen but were still there. Perhaps that’s why he was drawn to the young man. “You’re welcome. It was nothing, really.” It wasn’t like he’d spent the evening cooking. “No, no, leave everything where it is. I’ll get to it later or tomorrow. Come sit on the couch with me.” Louis stood, held out his hand then led Regulus over to sit where they could relax and talk a bit before. “Do you have any questions or anything about…me feeding from you?”
“You want me to leave everything?” He asked, looking at the dishes before him. It didn’t feel right to just leave them and expect Louis to deal with it all but… who was he to argue? Maybe he could convince him to let him wash them a little later. “Alright.” He said, standing up and taking the vampire’s offered hand. He followed him to the couch and took a seat. “No… not really. I did sort of wonder if it would hurt but…” He shrugged. He could handle pain and he didn’t know if Louis would know for sure.
The vampire just smiled and nodded. There wasn't that much to clean up anyway. That would have been one of his own questions. "Yes, it will hurt. I am biting into your flesh. The drinking part doesn't hurt, but there is the lingering pain from the bite." Of course he knew this because he'd been bitten by the one who made him. "It won't take all that long, but you will need to stay seated afterwards for a bit. And you'll need to drink some water. It's the same as if you've donated blood. It helps hydrate you after the loss of body fluid. One more thing. You may want to take your shirt off if you're comfortable with that. Sometimes blood drips and may get on it."
“That makes sense.” He murmured. He could deal with a little pain. He wouldn’t risk standing up right away. Regulus had only “donated” blood once. While his memory of the event was a little hazy he did remember how tired it had made him feel. He doubted Louis would take that much blood but it was better to be safe. He looked down at his shirt and nodded. That made sense too. Regulus had worn something comfortable that he wouldn’t mind getting blood on if that happened but he didn’t really like the idea of trying to wash blood stains off. It would be easier to get it off his skin if any dripped. “I’ll take it off.” He agreed, sitting forward a little so he could slip his shirt off and neatly fold it before setting it aside. He wasn’t very muscular but he was far from being thin and wiry. He’d been an athlete in school and while he hadn’t been lugging around a heavy club or diving after quaffles, he had been chasing down smaller, golden snitches and trying to outrace his opponent. Regulus was built more for speed than strength. He wasn’t embarrassed by that fact either. Really, the only part of himself he seemed to fret over was the bandage that remained wrapped around his left forearm.
He didn't avert his gaze when Regulus took off his shirt, but a small grin tugged at his lips when he folded it and sat it off to the side. "If you don't mind I will start by nuzzling and kissing your neck. I'm not the type of vampire who just goes for the bite." Once he had the okay Louis moved closer to the other and slid one around around him, the other went to cradle his neck. Leaning in he gently nuzzled against the warm flesh. He could hear the others quickening heartbeat, smell the blood. Kisses were pressed against his neck as Louis took in his familiar scent. He continued this for a few more moments before he bit down into his neck and began to drink. The first warm taste of blood was pure bliss and his hold tightened slightly.
“I don’t mind.” He agreed, smile turning just a little shy. He hadn’t known what to expect but that sounded pleasant, intimate. While he tried to relax as Louis gently took him into his arms he really couldn’t help the way his pulse quickened in anticipation not necessarily for the bite or the pain that would come but for the closeness and the intimacy that came before. The nuzzling was nice. Nice enough that Regulus tilted his head back a little to encourage more of it. The kisses that followed were even more pleasant and he found himself gripping gently onto the vampire’s shirt in order to keep him close. The bite that followed was less pleasant. Regulus let out a soft hiss of pain and gripped tighter to Louis’ shirt but didn’t try to pull away. The pain had been a sharp thing, a lingering burn, but it was far from terrible.
The sharp hiss from Regulus didn't go unnoticed, but when he didn't yell out or move away Louis continued. It would be easy to get lost in the blood sensation that flooded his body and senses. Nothing compared to the warm rich blood that now filled him. But he had to stop. He wouldn't take too much. He wouldn't do that. Slowly he stopped and pulled away, licking the two small drops of blood from the puncture wounds. He licked over the wounds themselves and they healed almost instantly. A moment was taken before he looked at Regulus. "Are you okay? Do you feel alright?" He would get him water in a moment, but his first concern was how he was feeling and doing.
The pain only lasted for a moment and it wasn’t enough to make the experience completely unpleasant. He still clung to Louis even after the other had finished drinking from him and moved on to licking at the wound he had made. Regulus assumed it was just to clean up any blood that may have still been dripping but the slight sting of the bite that lingered disappeared along with it. His hand moved to his neck once Louis pulled away, gently searching for a wound that was no longer there. “Guess that answers that question.” He murmured before focusing on Louis and his concern. “I’m fine. It wasn’t so bad.” Just because he felt fine didn’t mean he was going to try and tempt fate. He wouldn’t be standing or moving for a few more minutes.
It was strange. Louis was feeling so emotional in a way he never had before after feeling. To be honest, in a way he hadn't felt in a very long time period. He couldn't explain it. Yes, he was an emotional creature, but this was overwhelming. Not in a bad way, but an almost consuming way. So it was half on impulse and half want that he shifted to cup Regulus's face to kiss him slowly and tenderly. "Thank you," he spoke quietly then stood and went to get some water. He returned with a bottled water and handed it to the younger man then sat beside him.
While the kiss was a little unexpected it was more than welcome. Regulus gripped a hold of the vampire’s shirt just for a moment as he returned it before, willingly, letting him go. “You’re welcome.” He said though he felt like the thanks wasn’t needed. Regulus cared about him and this was the simplest thing he could do for him. He took the water when Louis returned and immediately opened it so he could take a drink. “How do you feel? After all of that. You kissed me so I assume your feelings are mostly positive.” He may have mostly wanted to bring up the kiss. The first time something like that had happened it had seemed a little more platonic and they hadn’t really spoken about it. He wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again.
"I feel great," he smiled. He was now warm to the touch and would be for a few hours before it slowly began to leave him. "Imagine your favorite meal cooked to perfection." It was that good. Maybe even better. There was no comparison between human and animal blood. The latter was far better. The kiss. Louis was smiling again. "Did you like it?" He knew the answer to that, but wanted to be sure. "That's something we can do more of if you like."
“You certainly look much happier.” He said, smiling warmly at Louis before taking another drink of his water. He should probably work on keeping himself hydrated while they talk. “I’ll just take that as a compliment of sorts.” He assumed it was just the idea that human blood was preferable to animal blood but it also meant his blood was good and Louis had more than enjoyed it. He noticed the way that Louis smiled when the kiss was brought up. “I did. I think you knew that.” And Louis seemed to have liked it as well, especially if he was offering to do it again. “I was really hoping you’d ask. In case it wasn’t clear, yes, I would like to do more of that.”
“I may have known,” he answered playfully. However, his own insecurities and needing to be assured had him ask. “I guess we both know we can do that more now.” Louis could be shy at times and got the feeling the younger man could as well. Beyond that he wouldn’t assume anything unless Regulus brought it up.
Regulus let out a soft laugh and looked away. “Was I that obvious?” They both had their insecurities and he was sure they could both be shy at times but he liked to think they were doing well so far. “We do…” He said, hesitating for a moment before deciding this was probably the best time to lead into it. “If you’re interested maybe we can discuss doing a few other things too?” He offered before deciding he might need to clarify a little just in case Louis didn’t quite remember that discussion. “We did talk a little about what was and wasn’t possible between us.”
“No, some things you just know,” the vampire smiled. He was still getting to know Regulus. That didn’t happen overnight, but what he knew so far, he liked. The topic of discussing doing other things genuinely surprised him. “I’m open to discussing anything with you anytime.” Louis wanted Regulus to know the lines of communication would always be open no matter what. “I know we talked about it briefly once.” It was more Louis explaining what he couldn’t do and wanting to make sure the other knew and was okay with that. He never wanted him to go without or miss out on anything because he was a vampire. It complicated things and that’s why they needed to discuss this very subject. “You know I can’t…” He couldn’t help the small grin and laugh. “I’m sorry. I just never imagined discussing this with a human. You know I can’t get an erection.” It was still strange to say out loud despite needing to be said. “You can most certainly take me though.”
“You know, I had a feeling it was something like that.” He didn’t want to delve too deeply into that part of things but, biologically, it made sense. There was no blood flow to direct back to that particular area in order for an erection. “I did sort of wonder if you would even enjoy that.” He admitted. It had been something he meant to ask when Louis had first brought up the idea. He wanted to make sure that Louis would enjoy it in some aspect even if it wasn’t the same. “I’ve only ever done it the one way.” He admitted. There was no preference there since his experience was limited. “And… I’m not sure we’re ready for all of that yet but I figured it was a good thing to talk about.” Things could happen one night when they were together. The kissing and whatever else they indulged in could lead to a desire for more so it was important to know these things. “For now I’m happy with what we have.”
“I think I would enjoy it.” A small shy grin played over his lips. “Oh no, I wasn’t insinuating it was something we’re ready for.” He didn’t think Regulus was either, but understood the need to clarify. “It’s good to talk about these things. I think one of the biggest problems in any kind of relationship is lack of communication. “I’m happy with what we have for now as well.” They hadn’t exactly defined what they were, but things like that came with time. “Are you still doing okay?” Louis asked, looking Regulus over.
If Louis thought he might enjoy it then Regulus would worry about it a little less. “I know. I wasn’t worried about that, I mostly just wanted you to know how I felt.” Louis was right. Communication was important. He hoped Louis knew that he could tell him anything, change his mind about any aspect of this relationship and Regulus would listen. Whatever this was between them, it started with friendship and the two of them caring for each other and each other’s well-being. He wouldn’t change that. “I’m still doing well. Though… I was wondering if you’d let me sleep here tonight?” He was probably fine to get up and move about or walk home on his own but he really didn’t want to. He just wanted to spend a little more time with the other.
