It went without saying that Storybrooke had taken some getting used to. Morgana had grown up accustomed to a certain way of life. As much as Gwen was her friend and her confident, she had still been a servant, just as Merlin had been Arthur's. Morgana was not used to doing things for herself. She was not used to this strange world where women wore trousers just as much as the men did or where they were often treated as equals to the men. Still, she found she liked this strange new world they had found themselves in. Morgana did miss Camelot, but there was a certain kind of freedom here. She was able to practice at the shooting range without admonishments (provided she did not tell Arthur of where she was going). She could practice magic without fearing Uther's wrath. Morgana hadn't done very much, yet, but it was so freeing just knowing that she could. It had certainly smarted at first when she learned of Merlin's magic. It hurt that he had kept it from her. She understood his fear of Uther's wrath, but she wouldn't have told him! Morgana knew as well as anyone what would have happened. It was why she had been so fearful of her own abilities, after all. But she also couldn't forget that it was Merlin who had helped her find the druids. It was Merlin who had shown his loyalty to Arthur time and again. As hurt as she had been to find he had been lying to them all for so long, she couldn't remain angry about it. In fact, a part of her wondered if he would be willing to teach her. His magic was so much more impressive than hers. Perhaps she would speak to him about it later. This morning, however, she was meeting Arthur for breakfast. After two months, she had grown more accustomed to fending for herself rather than expecting Gwen to see to her every meal and wardrobe change. She had even learned some basic cooking skills, insisting that she and Gwen take turns now that they were in this place where Gwen and Merlin weren't merely servants. Today, however, saw her at Granny's where she and Arthur had agreed to meet. Despite living directly across the hall from him and Merlin, Morgana hadn't seen very much of the man she'd grown up with and she was pleased to have this chance to share a meal with him, just the two of them without Gwen and Merlin there. It was something she was looking forward to. Morgana's old gown wasn't practical here, but despite having acquired several pairs of what the more modern people called "jeans," it felt strange to wear trousers everyday. Today, she opted for a skirt and blouse, one of the outfits she'd picked up at the clothing shop where Gwen worked. It was a little nippy out, though not too bad, and she walked briskly toward Granny's, anxious to arrive on time. And perhaps to get some coffee into her system. The ring Morgause had given her continued to work wonders against the nightmares that had once plagued her, but she had not slept very well last night. |
