It was 1:30 PM on a Friday. If Paige had gotten the job at the sheriff's office, she'd be taking her lunch right now, but another applicant was chosen and she was still looking. She'd taken the day today to just relax a little bit and then try again. At the moment, she was simply walking around the tower she lived in. She'd started at the bottom and now she was on her own floor, but her goal was the roof. She wondered if she could actually sit on the top if there was a husk that could accomplish that. But for now, she'd stick to the contentment of the halls and some of the people meandering about them. It wasn't a problem. She was used to this kind of movement back home in both her own house in Kentucky and the school in New York. After all, it happened when you were in a big crowd and this was kind of the same thing. Her brain was always going a mile a minute, new thoughts and ideas. New ways to do different things. Thoughts about the future, about how people were doing back home. About him. But she was constantly shoving the latter thoughts back as much as possible. It was fruitless to wonder about him when he'd been the one to leave... even if he had accompanied them to her mother's home. To her home. Where she definitely didn't want him right now. Her thoughts should probably be on this party she'd heard about tonight, but she'd never really been great at parties where she didn't know anyone. She was so caught up in the menagerie that was her brain, that she failed to notice she was no longer alone in the hallway. She also failed to notice that the person was coming straight at her and, like her, wasn't paying attention to their surroundings. It wasn't until she was literally slammed from her thoughts and wound up on the hard floor that she took note of her current predicament... and her current company. "Oh mah gosh, Ah am so sorry. Ah wasn't watchin' where Ah was goin' an' Ah shoulda been." It was the beginning of a ramble, one that was familiar to those at Xavier's when she got like this. |
