Stiles wasn't entirely sure when he'd stopped being obsessed with Lydia. Or when he'd started thinking of Derek's crazy, long-lost sister in a different light. All he knew was that he liked Cora. Sure, she shared Derek's grumpy emotional unavailability and violent tendencies, but she could be funny when she wanted to be. And she was pretty. And she cared. She cared enough to get pissed. Something about her just made him take notice. Maybe it was the intensity. Or maybe it was the fact that she so obviously needed someone. But then he'd gotten to know her and he just...liked her. A lot. It had sort of sneaked on him and punched him in the face, which really made a lot of sense, considering it was Cora, and that was something she would probably do. God, he really did have a thing for violent tendencies didn't he?
And somewhere in all of that, his ridiculous crush on Lydia had faded away. They were still friends, good friends, and he still objectively believed that Lydia was pretty much the most beautiful girl in existence. He just wasn't caught up in an ideal. He'd seen the real Lydia, her flaws and the good points he hadn't even known she had, and he'd realized that was a girl he wanted as a friend, not some impossible dream he wanted to pursue. And that was better. It really was. With Cora, he'd gone in with his eyes open, and he liked her flaws and the flashes of awesomeness he saw underneath her hard outer shell. He liked arguing with her and just talking with her and she was different and irritating but also awesome and he hadn't been lying when he'd said he didn't know if he wanted to kiss her or bash his head against a wall, but he was sort of leaning toward the first one.
And now Cora was coming over. Ostensibly to watch a movie, but he also knew there would probably be kissing. That fact made him nervous beyond all telling. He'd kissed people, of course. Well, he'd been kissed. By Heather. Before she'd died horribly. Okay, so he didn't exactly have experience with the kissing thing. And while he wanted to do things like kissing...and more, part of him was still caught up in that place of feeling like there was too much danger and insanity in his life for him to really think about things like that. It wasn't that he didn't want to take care of his problem of being a virgin, just in case someone else came along doing ritual sacrifices. He just had never really seen a way to pursue anything with anyone with all the danger. And with Cora, he didn't want to rush for the finish line.
What he wanted was to sit around and watch movies and bicker and introduce her to pop culture because it was really sad that she didn't know who Buffy was. He was pretty sure she'd enjoy Buffy. And he was also sure she'd watch Star Wars with him, unlike Scott who was apparently just a complete failure when it came to geek cred. More than that, though, he wanted to hold her hand and talk about things, tell her about stuff he didn't tell everyone else and let her open up to him if she wanted to. It was weird and a little scary and mostly awesome, but still scary, so he did his best not to think about it and instead got snacks together for the movie. When the knock came, he all but ran to the door, hoping it was actually Cora and not Scott or Isaac or Danny. Or Derek coming to actually murder him. Opening the door and spotting Cora there, pretty and intense and incredibly intimidating, he went to say hello or to ask her if she wanted something to drink or to compliment her...uh...scowl. Something that wouldn't sound completely ridiculous.
"Your brother psychically knows I like you and threatened to murder me." Or he could go with that. Awesome. "I mean...come on in. Do you want something to drink? You look nice. Much less...pale and dying." Yeah...Derek wasn't going to have to worry about killing him. The embarrassment would do it for him.
