Xander never really thought he would make it through the battle. Then again, it wasn't the first time he'd thought he was going to die only to survive. Maybe that was his superpower - having the sheer dumb luck to live through a number of apocalypses. Apocali? What was the plural of apocalypse, anyway? After living through so many, you would think he would have developed a higher expectation of living through it, but this was it. The First. And Xander was down an eye, which only added to the chance that he was going to die. Yeah, he was definitely going to die. So he thought, anyway. Once he made it out of the school, Xander looked around for his friends. For Willow, for Buffy, for Anya. If he made it out, they had to be okay, too, right? Wrong. Xander couldn't seem to find his voice when Andrew told him Anya didn't make it. Stupid as it sounded, his first instinct was to blame himself, even though there was nothing he could have done. Probably. Xander had made a lot of dumb choices where Anya was concerned and now he was never going to have a chance to make it right. She was gone. When he drifted into Storybrooke a few hours later, Xander was sure he'd fallen asleep on a busy and was having a really vivid dream. Hopefully not the kind where the First Slayer was going to kill him. One minute he was practically leaping from the bus as he made a mad dash for the bathroom and the next he was strolling into a town he'd never seen before. Unfortunately, the need to go didn't vanish with his arrival through the portal and he spent the bulk of his "welcome" not really paying much attention as he did the pee-pee-dance and then bolted toward the nearest bathroom as soon as he could. Pee first, explore later, he decided. |
