Jack hadn't been chasing the mystery of this town and his arrival there as hard as he should be. There was a lot of people to meet and a lot of small-town-fairytale to explore. And the Doctor was here, which meant there was likely someone already putting more effort and expertise into it than Jack would be.
But that didn't mean he wasn't poking his nose into things. Jack wasn't capable of not doing so, at least a little. The day after he'd gotten here, he'd gone to visit the fairy-nuns, as the Mayor advised. And Chekov from the U.S.S. Enterprise had tagged along. Which was a little bit of a trip. He wasn't the Chekov that Jack remembered, but from a few things he'd seen flying around the network, he figured there must have been a new series done later than the last year Jack remembered.
Cute kid, though. Talkative and energetic. Jack had the impression Toshiko would love him. Jack had chatted with him on the walk there, and then they'd both peppered the nuns with questions and asked for demonstrations. Jack had implied he'd be interested in demonstrations not relating to magic, too, but the ladies hadn't seemed interested.
Jack had heard about a genuinely magic (or previously magic, reports had been mixed) wishing well though, and decided to go have a look. He didn't know how much faith he had in the magic, but everyone could do with a few wishes. And he just wanted to take a look around, too. He'd planned to make the trip alone this time, but when he ran into Chekov, he'd been happy enough for the company and invited him along.
Jack had gotten directions from one of the fairies, but they were a little vague. There wasn't any hurry though, and Jack followed along a vague path through the trees, matching his steps with Chekov's. "So it looked like another of your crewmates popped up, yesterday, I think? Or was he from a different ship?" Jack asked curiously, sidestepping a fallen log.
