Maybe it wasn't a date or maybe it was something like one, either way Steve hadn't given it too much thought. He was just glad that he and Bucky were finally making the effort to spend some time together without so much of that dark cloud hanging over their heads. He'd put it off, kept to himself, thinking it was better for everyone but he'd been wrong about that. He didn't need to be the one making that call for everyone. This didn't have to be so complicated. I there was a time where Bucky didn't want to spend time with him, all he had to do was say so, simple as that. And honestly after everything that Ultron had brought up about his future and his past, Steve was just looking forward to some time to distract himself with something else. Something lighthearted and fun. This seemed like a good start.
He'd stopped by the diner on the way, to eat (he was always eating) and pick up a pie. It didn't mean that they couldn't actually go to the place for some pie another time but he'd made the offer and why not follow through on it early? It was apple, naturally. Both because he knew Bucky had enjoyed it before and even if he didn't now, Steve could happily polish it of himself. He figured Bucky probably had some food-pre planned for a movie night anyway so one way or another, no one was going hungry.
He hadn't stopped by the 'Spysassin' house before now, but he knew where to go. This was the first time he'd been invited and it seemed nice enough. Now that he knew the kind of life Clint had behind the scenes back home, the fact that he'd set a home for the kind of people who needed one most made even more sense. Bucky was in good hands, that was maybe the most important thing.
Steve could hear the barking behind the door even before Bucky opened it and he made sure to elevate the pie box just a little bit when the dog came to greet him first. He had to smile, and he was glad to see Bucky doing the same. Sometimes it still blew his mind how much he'd improved. In a good way. It was getting a little harder to think of Bucky as the version he'd nearly fought to the death on the Helicarrier each day.
"Hey girl," he greeted, and bent down enough to give her a scratch or two on the head before he stepped inside. "Thor is more fun than Steve or some of those others, I think. Thor would probably something like 'Well met my canine friend! It is a fine name for such a noble animal!'" He tried, and probably failed a little with his Thor impression before offering out the box to Bucky, out of reach of the dog of course.
"I didn't want to wait on pie, I guess. I thought it would be an excuse to try a different kind next time. You can show me around later, if you want. Knowing us, it might take a while to decide on something. Better get a head start." He was also a little apprehensive about running into any of Bucky's housemates. Steve had nothing against any of them, honestly, but he knew what it was like to be protective of your close knit group of friends. 20 questions could be saved for another time, maybe.
