The Hanged Man had made its concessions to the modern world here and there. But overall, it was an easy throwback for those who came from places where television and internet didn't exist. The original version had been the favored tavern of a pirate, whose idea it had been to rebuild it in Storybrooke, and had enlisted another pirate to help. Isabela was long gone - come and gone a few times in fact - but some of her friends remained.
And Killian was still here. These days, he spent most of his time at the Hanged Man. His ship was still his first love, but the Jolly Roger had been in dock too long, and if he spent too much time on her, it just made him feel restless with all the places they couldn't go.
Storybrooke wasn't such a miserable place, in its way. He had friends and some who edged the line past that. But sailors were never happy in just one port, and Hook would never stop being frustrated with the lock that kept him in town.
For all that he owned the place, Hook didn't actually spend that much time running it. He mostly left it to Neal, who did a better job of it, and just did what he felt like doing. He served drinks now and then, or took pleasure in tossing out a particularly bothersome drunk. Mostly though, he played cards, talked with the staff or customers, or lazed about in the room in back, reading or watching television - or passing time in other ways if he had the company for it.
Today though, it was early enough that it wasn't crowded, so he had one of the tables near the bar, feet up on the empty chair beside him, absently arguing with someone with bright white hair, pointed ears, and white markings on his skin about something that seemed to be called "Wicked Grace".
The white haired man gave up finally, snorting and going to take a seat at the bar and pointedly ignoring him. Killian grinned after him and then looked up as Gretel walked in, noting the crossbow and the expression. Ah. Newcomer. "Welcome to the Hanged Man," he said. She looked a bit like someone he'd met once in the face, but Killian couldn't recall who - they came and went so quickly around here.
