WHO: Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson WHAT: Steve's settling in and still trying to sort everything out. Fortunately he has a wingman to help with that. WHERE: Housing towers, and Steve's new digs. WHEN: A little after Steve's initial arrival. RATING: PG, tops.
Not so strangely enough, the walk to the residence towers didn't actually make this whole situation any less strange. The map was easy enough to understand but Steve still made a point to try and memorize his new surroundings. Maybe if he'd just shown up in Storybrooke through some kind of portal to a host of unfamiliar faces, things would have been less unsettling. Steve was used to dealing with the unfamiliar by now. He'd taught himself how to function in a whole knew body decades ago during the war and then he'd come out of the ice and reevaluated how he could live and work in the modern world. Then, when Hydra had decided to rear it's heads again Steve had found a way to adapt again. It was was something he'd learned to be good at. Adapting. Didn't necessarily mean he enjoyed it each time. Honestly it seemed to get a little harder each go around but at least here there didn't seem to be any immediate threats to deal with. That gave him some room to breathe and, more importantly, time to think.
Some people seemed pleased to see him, and others not so much. He hadn't spent time browsing the network to find evidence of any past versions of himself just yet but it seemed like he'd have to get on that soon. Bucky didn't know it but Steve was well-versed enough to figure out how to look up Google Translate to determine what he was saying. It felt like cheating but after so long he just wanted to know what his old friend was saying. The content really only left him feeling more confused. Having Peggy around, young and vibrant all over again wasn't really helping to keep his thoughts from being muddled either. Not that he'd show that any of it bothered him if he could help it.
Still, it wasn't all confusing and bleak. Having Sam there to banter with him and keep him in check from the get go was like a breath of fresh air. He hadn't had a roommate in ages so this would probably be interesting. After a couple years of apartments to himself maybe it would be a nice change of pace. If he was stuck here for a while then at least there would be some company. If Fury and some of the others had been here for a year or more, who knew how long any of them could be in for.
Steve got a key of his own downstairs and it was easy from there to find the room. #203 was right there on the door and he was pretty sure Sam was around as expected.
"There's no tie on the door so I'm coming on in," he announced, and immediately glanced around to take stock of his new surroundings. It only occurred to him then that he didn't really have many belongings other than what the few things he'd been given when he showed up and the clothes on his back. He did have his shield, thank goodness. It had been on him in transit before he'd showed up. No uniform or anything but as calm as Storybrooke seemed so far he wondered if he'd even need it. With people like Loki wandering around? Maybe so.
