Bella sat down on the warm cement of the sidewalk outside of Granny's diner. Well, it was more like controlled tumbling onto her tailbone but, for her, that was doing well. Honestly, the hotness of the sidewalk was a nice reprieve from the way the breeze hit her wet clothes and sent shivers coursing through her limbs. She'd half expected something bad to happen if she took the jump but she hadn't expected to find herself in another world entirely. Or, at least, that was what she'd been told by the natives. It hadn't been until she'd seen Jacob's face on the network that she'd really started thinking that maybe she wasn't really dead. Of course, true to experience, the moment one worry'd left, it was replaced by another and Jacob's evasion of her questions concerned her a great deal. She'd had to resist the urge to ask if Edward was here but she knew he wasn't even without Jacob refusing to answer her questions when they weren't face-to-face. At least her friend was true to his word, though, and she didn't have to sit outside the diner, letting people know she didn't need any help, for long. She knew it was him the moment she'd spotted his outline in the distance and, despite her current state of mind, she felt herself brighten at the familiarity of his walk. Unfolding her legs, she pushed herself up onto her feet and dusted the dirt off of her backside as he walked toward her. Bella stuffed her hands in the now-heavy material of her back pockets. "Hey, Jake," Bella greeted, rocking back on her feet and glancing uncertainly around them. She wondered how long he'd been here. Even more than that, she wondered if it became less overwhelming and unnerving over time. |
