He never said how glad he was to have Rick back in Storybrooke. It felt weird having the group without him. Not that he didn't appreciate Maggie, Michonne or Beth being there. Hell, it would of been even weirder without them. It was just the fact that Rick was his brother - their leader. Without him the group felt like it was missing a direction. Then again the whole group dynamic felt weird being in a town that was normal.
Though, Daryl never had adjusted well. He had his issues with Storybrooke for being normal. Then the walkers showed up. Daryl never trusted the false sense of security to begin with and that had blown it out of the water. So to speak. Now he walked around the town at night to make sure it was fine. He didn't trust the local police force to actually be able to handle anything like that. He knew Rick could sort them out now that he was back.
The whole thing had happened because Daryl knocked on Rick's door and asked if he wanted to go on a patrol for him. Really it was an attempt at filling Rick on what he had missed and what was going on as far as Daryl could tell. Rick didn't remember Storybrooke apparently. Maybe that was a good thing. It'd be a fresh start. If Melissa really loved Rick? Then she's be able to help him and get over it.
Daryl turned around the corner into the shopping district. The town was so damn small that he wondered how the hell it kept everyone in it. He knew the path they were on. He went it every day to that 9-5 job he had. A job. Daryl still felt like he really wasn't living his own life. Who the hell ever thought he'd have a job?
"It's gonna be Christmas soon." Daryl looked to Rick. Christmas wasn't something they ever really celebrated. Sure, Hershel said a few things on a day he felt like it was Christmas. That didn't make them practicing believers. "I'm guessin' it was a big deal in the Grimes house."
