"But you say it like I shouldn't," Quatre said, no accusation or censure in his voice. If that was how Trowa felt, he certainly wouldn't hold it against him. Their experiences were simply different. He knew that Trowa had spent a great deal of his life alone, and therefore didn't see a need to keep people close. "But I won't pretend that I didn't miss you or that I'm not glad to see you. I should have tried harder to keep in touch...we all should have." They needed each other, even though the others - save for possibly Duo - were unlikely to actually admit that.
He smiled to himself as Trowa guided him to sit in the shade, letting himself be lead. "You worry too much about me," he said. "I'm fine. It isn't even that hot." Because of course he knew what Trowa was really doing and why. "But I do appreciate it, and I am glad you're here. I wouldn't want to be by myself, I think."
Which brought them back to the current matter. "That's what I was thinking too," he said. "But how? And why? I guess those are the real questions. How did we get here? And why are we here?"
