Castiel supposed that while Storybrooke was not as hostile an environment as it could have been given its creation, there were still a number of things that made him restless. For one, the sheer fact that it was by definition an abomination, but it was something beyond even that. He'd already been aware of there being other realities and alternate timelines. That was common knowledge among the Host, including spells that could break the barriers if necessary, but there were reasons why shattering them was dangerous. He wished to liken it to pulling a thread, but out of all the theories he'd conjured, thus far the only successful one had been in relation to the anomaly being simply that.
Yet it did very little to ease his concerns over the presence of pagan gods. Castiel also knew of them - when he'd first heard the name 'Loki,' he'd in all honesty, searched for Gabriel. When he'd found that to not be the case, he'd stood down, but as to whether or not he was relieved, he didn't know. He'd never been close to his third oldest brother. In fact, throughout the few times he and Gabriel had crossed paths, he'd held nothing but contempt for him, but the fact that Loki was the real thing concerned him even more. He was someone to watch...as was his brother Thor.
While it had been rumored for centuries that Thor had disappeared prior to any mention of Ragnarok and there had only been rumors concerning his hammer on Earth, Castiel still didn't trust him. Pagan gods were fierce, in a different way from archangels. They consumed human blood as sacrificial offering and if they had somehow managed to escape Lucifer's genocide of them, he knew they would be twice as angry to learn of the others' demises.
That was why he sought Thor out. He knew about Loki. Thor...the information was limited. And while his vessel, or what Castiel had originally assumed was his vessel, was very large, he was not...his soul was different. He had a soul, for one. And that was decidedly very unexpected. While he would have sensed a pagan god regardless, he'd not expected to see something that was by definition, alien to Earth.
"You are Thor?" he asked, landing behind the other man with a flap of his wings. "Presumably of Asgard?"
It was blunt and likely without tact, but Castiel had nothing to fear. Thor couldn't harm him and as it was, they were out in the open. There was space, in the event of confrontation. Cas was confident he could at least put the god to sleep if all else failed. Yet somehow, he was doubtful there would be a fight.
"I've been sensing you for some time," he said, staring at the other man intently. "It...seemed necessary to investigate."
