"I certainly try and keep my promises. I can't think of many more important things than being a person of my word. There's a lot of things the world can take from you, but trying to do what you say and believe in? Barring mind control, that's usually something we always have within our power. Even if we fail, the thought does count, I think." He smiled then, glad she got the teasing aspect of his remark, but he added more seriously, "And even if you don't have cookies or juice, if you need blood in the future? You can just let me know." It didn't sound as if she had to drain him completely every day. A blood donation every so often was more than doable on his end, and an offer he was glad to make. "I wouldn't offer if it wasn't all right. And as you'll see, I really do heal fast. I know it's not something you want to do, but I'd rather you remain alive. So the offer is out there, if you want."
At her remark on her face he shook his head. "You don't have to apologize for being who you are." The face change wasn't expected, the darkening of the eyes and veins showing the vampire aspect underneath the human countenance. She wasn't the first person he'd met harboring what others might consider an animal, and he made no comment nor shirked away. He'd sat with Logan while the other man tore the punching bag to pieces with a savage brutality not long ago; Steve had sank to his knees and bore that time with him as a friend, until Logan came back to himself. That was one of many such times, with different people. He'd been on both sides of that exchange. Steve didn't turn his back on people who might be different, who might harbor darker parts of themselves. Who didn't possess those sides, in differing degrees? Those that had to fight theirs harder only made them more impressive in Steve's eyes for their struggle. Her teeth sank into his arm shortly after, a sharp prick against his tough skin that didn't really bother him. He felt the pressure, but he'd encountered far worse pangs in his time. You got tossed out of enough buildings and your pain tolerance went through the roof. So to speak. She was careful about it too he noticed.
Once she was done Steve pressed two fingers to the wound, bending his arm up for a moment to clot the blood flow. He then shook his arm loose before extending it back to Caroline to show. "See? Already healing up." It was true, the twin marks were already having skin stitched and repaired over to mend where the teeth had moments ago sunk into them. Offering a smile he added gently, "Like I said, I'm pretty durable. You are feeling better?"
