"I'm willing to buy it's complicated," Steve said truthfully, gesturing around them. "And not just because we're from alternate worlds thrown together by a magic portal." That was complicated too of course, but it was a complication of a different sort. The sort they were talking about now, having red stains on your hands that didn't wash off with water even after the blood was gone, was a more personal, bone cutting kind. One that was internal, rather than just being caught in the midst of madness going on around one's self. They were all caught up here with personal stories, tangled ones that it was never easy to try and unravel for others to see. Steve had learned in his time that trust was something largely earned by people, and that one should never expect it without being willing to show it in return. Therefore he offered a string of his own personal history back, "I've been a soldier for several decades." He knew his appearance belied how likely that would be, so he added, "I was enhanced, it's kept me alive in more ways than one. But I understand the concept of not wanting to take life, even under the darkest circumstances. Even when you're doing it for a cause you believe in, to protect, that shouldn't make it any easier." He carried the weight of each person that had fallen with him. "It's not the same as your situation, nobody's two experiences are, but I agree it's complicated. In some ways, I think it's meant to be." Life and death situations rarely should be taken as simple. It was one reason he wanted to help her now - protecting people was in his blood and in his training, and he didn't want her to have blood on her hands anymore than he wanted anyone to have to die by accident because she was stuck starving in a rough situation.
He gave a nod as she spoke about her cravings and needs, it was different than what he knew of Jubilee, but that didn't surprise him, really. It was logical that there would be different types of vampires, just as there were different types of humans, across dimensions. Some with enhancements or magical abilities, for example. He offered a small smile and nod when she repeated his offer to help, reinforcing the gesture. It might not have been something most would be willing to do, but he'd gone to far greater lengths in the past to offer assistance to someone in need, especially when the welfare of others might be at steak. "Like I said, I'm not a regular human. I've had enhancements done to me. Durability and accelerated healing are two of them, as are increased reflexes, speed, agility and strength. You would be very hard pressed to drain me to the point of any concern, and I bounce back fast. Plus, like I said, I'm really strong. Pulling away even with some blood loss could probably be done." He hesitated a moment then added with serious sincerity, "Like I said, I'm a soldier, but more than that, I try and be a decent person. Just like I think you try and be. I think part of that is lending a hand when and where you can, especially when it helps keep other people safe and you from starving. I'd be willing to put my blood into a container in the future if that'd make you more comfortable, but for now, if you need to drink, well. I'm offering."
