Cecil had replayed Carlos's message almost until he could recite it word for word but it still didn't feel real. His boyfriend was gone. His boyfriend was a hero. He'd been saying so on the radio since he'd found out about what happened. But he didn't want his boyfriend to be a hero. He just wanted him to be with him. He just wanted to be home. It had already been over a month since he'd really seen Carlos. He didn't count the time that Carlos had managed to project the image of his physical form into the radio station, because he hadn't been able to touch him and Dana had been there and they'd mostly been discussing saving the town. And he really missed him. He missed him a lot. Even Khoshekh's adorable yowls and his Jaws slash fiction and lunch dates with Dana couldn't console him.
And then he wasn't in Night Vale any more. And he could remember months and months of not being in Night Vale. And he remembered that Carlos had been here too. And they had been married. And there was every chance that he was still there. That he could see him again. He didn't want to get his hopes up. It had after all been - he paused to check his phone - an hour and a half since he'd gone back to Night Vale. Anything could have happened in that time. Carlos could be gone here as well. But he ran to his apartment, belatedly thinking that maybe he should have checked that Carlos wasn't at his lab first but he didn't want to risk the disappointment if his husband (and he may have internally squealed at that word, because Carlos was his husband now and that was just neat!) was gone, and flung open the door, eyes widening as he spotted Carlos.
"Carlos!" he shouted, tackling his husband to the floor and kissing him frantically. "Oh thank the void! You're here!"
