This place still didn't sit right by Daryl. That was more because he never had a normal life. Not a life that Maggie or Carl or Rick had. He learned to fend for his own and lived out in the woods as a kid. Dad and Mom didn't give a shit and Merle left as soon as he could. It sucked and it was hard, but life in the world they lived on was more familiar.
Till he started to realize he needed people and started losing those people.
Daryl continued the conversations over the phone (texting? since when the hell did people text again?) as he made his way to the Grimes's apartment. He asked a few basic questions and managed to find it on his own. It wasn't hard. Once you knew people as well as he knew them? Finding them was easy. Keeping them was hard.
He walked down the hallway before stopping at the door. He looked as good as he felt. From inside the door he could hear Judith, Lil' Ass Kicker, gigging away. Like nothing was wrong at all. It struck him right in his chest. He spent all that time thinking they were all dead--thought he'd never see them again. Now he had found them but Beth was gone. What kind of sick trade off was that?
Daryl shifted the crossbow on his back. People had been a bit wary when they saw it. Good, let 'em. He didn't want them to think they could mess with him.
He glanced down and raised his hand to knock at the door. Suddenly he felt awkward and like running from the whole thing. He wouldn't. They were family.
