There was a good chance this thing between them wouldn't survive a trip home. She'd heard (probably from Tripp) that back home she was responsible for crushing Ward's larynx. She may have even been a little more insistent on certain kinds of punishment for Ward. Both because he had used her and because of what his betrayal meant for the team. For Skye and for Coulson. Phil had been her best friend for a long time. She was always going to try and protect him if she could.
Things here, however, were different. This Grant Ward wasn't the same as the one back home. He hadn't betrayed the team so spectacularly yet. She could believe that this one didn't want to follow that path. The magic of this place meant that, unfortunately, he would once he got home. He'd just deal with a lot of guilt if he came back. She wasn't sure how she'd reconcile both realities. It was possible that a lot of it would depend on what Grant did once he came back. How he felt. Who he was and whether either of them remembered.
"Good because we can't promise each other anything here. I care about you, Grant. I really do." And it was likely she'd continue to care for him even after the trip home and back. "But a lot has happened there and we can't change it no matter how much we want to." It came with being fictional, she guessed. Whatever happened maybe it was worth it to see him smile like that. Stepping closer to him she placed a hand upon his arm. "I want to give it a chance too. Maybe we'll get lucky."
