Sirius had to keep reminding himself that he, and everyone he knew who showed up here, wasalive, and there was no brewing war or people bent on kill them. So this place wasn't bad. Food, drink, a few interesting people about. It wasn't bad.
Except days when his sodding little cousin showed up, grown up and pink headed and probably soon-to-be-married to one of his best mates. Sirius didn't exactly have a load of family he got along with. It bothered him more than he'd have thought, seeing little Dora grown up. He'd been told the facts of how things went. He knew he got packed off to Azkaban, that everyone died. But they hadn't yet, to him, and seeing Dora grown up after not knowing him hardly at all since she was tiny, it struck a nerve.
He didn't like it. It reminded him of all the things he wished he didn't know about his own future. (Which was stupid and pointless and filled with the kind of tragedy Sirius hadn't ever anticipated happening, war or no.)
The sensible response would probably have been to go see her, talk to her, sort out how he felt.
Naturally, his actual response was to go get roaring drunk. With Andromeda was new, but otherwise - it was Sirius' general response to most problems.
He met her up at the Rabbit Hole, only because he'd been to the pirates place more recently, and chatted up the bartender until he spotted Andie in the doorway, then got them both a pint and a pitcher and shots, because if you were going to do a thing, you might as well do it properly, and staked out a table, waving her over and plonking the drinks in front of her before dropping into the seat opposite her. "So. She looks more like you than Ted, thank Merlin."
