WHO: Phil Coulson, Nick Fury, & Grant Ward WHAT: It's time to decide if Ward is worth the risk. And Coulson and Fury have a few questions for him. WHEN: May 30th; EARLY WHERE: A nice, secluded, abandoned building downtown RATING: PG-13 STATUS: In Progress
Ward had never been given the bag treatment before. Well, not with SHIELD. Garrett had done it when he'd gotten him out of juvie so that Ward wouldn't know which direction to take in order to find the road when they reached the forest. But with SHIELD, he had always been on the bagger end rather than the baggee. So it had been a new sensation when Fury had thrown a black canvas sack over his head, bound his hands, and dragged him out of the apartment at 4:30 in the morning. He'd listened, carefully, traced their movements as they walked, but his knowledge of this town was still sketchy at best so he'd gotten lost after about the fifth turn they'd taken. Ward was sure Fury had done that on purpose. This town wasn't big enough to take that many streets to get wherever they were going. But as he was plopped down forcefully into a chair, the bag removed but his hands still bound, he looked up at the scowling face of Director Fury and the impossible to fully read disapproval of Coulson.
The room, what he could see of it with the single blinding light above his head blocking out his distance vision, was bare, what looked like a disused office space, and was decked out with equipment that Ward realized were makeshift torture devices, intimidation tools, the sort of thing that he'd seen in torture resistance training at the Academy. They'd rarely ever used them. Not until the final lesson, but right now, Ward wasn't so sure that would be the case here.
There also seemed to be a lie detector set up next to the chair, an old fashioned model that read out with a seismograph. He wasn't sure what they hoped to accomplish with that. Ward could beat one of those things with his eyes closed. But he imagined that it was just an assurance. Just in case they could catch him out in a lie.
"I'm here..." Ward said. "What do you want to know?"
