Remus didn’t think he’d ever be able to properly demonstrate how grateful he really was for his job at the library. Back at home, work wasn’t easy for him to come by. If he worked in the Wizarding world he always had to leave when people started asking questions. In the muggle world… well, there was only so much time off he could get away with. But here, finally, he had work that he actually enjoyed, and he didn’t have to keep explaining himself and his absences to his employer. He had his friends back and was even starting to make some new ones and… well, if he was honest, it was all appearing a little too good to be true.
The young man pushed the thought from his mind as he pushed open the door to Storybooke coffee and stepped inside, taking a deep breath of rich, coffee-smelling air. He’d just finished up at work, and had decided he was much in need of a caffeine fix before he headed back to the flat. A thick book was held securely under his arm as he approached the counter and ordered his usual milky coffee.
Remus was just stepping aside, making room for the next person to place their order, when the book slipped from his grip and hit the floor with a sharp bang, narrowly avoiding the foot of the person beside him. Remus quickly bent to retrieve it, apologising profusely and feeling the back of his neck flush a deep pink as he did so.
