Jemma had trusted Ward. Not as much as she'd trusted Fitz, because there was nobody she trusted as much as Fitz. But she'd trusted him. He'd jumped out of a plane to save her life. She would have been dead without him. He had taken a bullet trying to protect Coulson. He had stood by their side every step of the way. And he'd been their friend. How could that man be Hydra? How could he have worked with the Clairvoyant and killed Hand and Koenig? How could he have kidnapped Skye? How could he have betrayed all of them? She just couldn't wrap her head around the idea that the Ward she knew could have done any of that. But then, she supposed, she'd never known Ward at all.
And that was what hurt the most. That he had let them believe he was their friend while he was betraying them every day. She had come to him with her problems here, with her fears and her concerns, and he had lied to her face. He'd dismissed her concerns about Hydra, and she'd let him. She had never felt so stupid in her life. He'd played them, and they had all fallen for it. And she felt sick in the pit of her stomach as she thought of how close they had become in Storybrooke. Closer than home. It stung that much worse because of it.
She took a deep breath as she knocked on his door. She knew this was stupid, but she needed to talk to him before she did anything else. She wasn't sure why, she just did. She had an ICER, so she felt at least a little more secure than she would have without some sort of weapon, but she also knew the risk she was taking. Ward was a dangerous man, and she was coming to meet with him alone. She couldn't really explain it. She bit her lip, feeling anxious. Maybe she should send off a text. After all, nobody else knew she was back yet. Ward could easily kill her and make it seem like she'd never returned. She rather hoped he wouldn't, but she couldn't be sure what he was capable of.
