Who: Angel and Jenny Calendar. What: Awkward reunion! Where: Let's say the library, because it seems like somewhere they'd both have cause to go and I don't know what building Jenny is staying in. When: After Jenny's arrival, but probably before he finds out about Cordelia's arrival. (I think both of those happened on the 15th?) Warnings/Rating: Mentions of violence/character death, most likely. Rating shouldn't be too high otherwise though. Status: In progress.
It had been a few days since anyone too shocking had arrived -- well, unless Lilah counted as shocking, which she didn't because he still wasn't convinced the Senior Partners weren't playing a role in this whole situation. That was a relief, because Angel was getting tired of having to tell creative versions of the truth, and trying to remember who knew what, and of course the arguments with Spike and the disappointment from Buffy. He'd taken to avoiding his building altogether when possible, just because he didn't want to have the uncomfortable conversations that would most likely come up if he ran into someone he knew. The only person he felt okay around at the moment was Wesley; even that was somewhat fraught, with the subject of Wesley's imminent death back home hanging in the air, but they were both used to elephants in the room at this point. After everything they'd been through, the knowledge that Wes didn't survive the big battle (and that Angel most likely wouldn't survive it either) was relatively minor in comparison.
So he'd been spending a lot of time at the library, helping with research, reporting back to Wes on the rare occasion he unearthed anything that might prove valuable. The rest of the time, he'd been staking out Katherine and Faith's apartment in the first tower and tracking anyone who so much as glanced at it funny. It wasn't much, but at least he felt like he was making himself useful to someone, and avoiding his own problems was certainly a bonus.
He'd gone almost a whole hour without feeling guilty about something -- his record before that had been approximately fifteen minutes -- when he finished the book he was studying and got up to replace it on the shelf. His thoughts absorbed in the material he'd just read, he turned the corner without checking for humans (or non-humans) on the other side first, and accidentally bumped into someone. Someone who smelled... vaguely familiar.
"Sorry," he mumbled, glancing up to see if he did in fact recognize the person or if he was just imagining things. His eyes widened at the sight of the woman in front of him. "Wh-- Jenny?"
