Taking down the protector was essential to successfully carrying out their mission. For months she had interfered with their operations and had cost them quite a few members. Quite nearly her very own life. The suit was their one saving grace in this seemingly endless battle. How could they possibly fail? And yet they had. Through both CMR feeds she had watched as the protector, Kiera Cameron, had bested Travis and sent him falling down the elevator shaft. Not even a full minute had passed - nor had she processed Travis’ fate - before the sound of a gun’s safety being turned off filled the lab and it was pointed at the back of her head. Jason was of no help to her. He was cowering off to the side. Sonya Valentine was unarmed but that’s not to say that she was helpless because the “Queen of Hearts” was never helpless. And Marco hardly frightened her; even with a gun pointed at her head. No, in fact, it annoyed her more than anything else. But even that was short-lived as the collectors or freelancers took care of him not a minute later. A muttered “god dammit” escaped her lips before they took her away. Fighting against them was futile at least for now. Her thoughts began going all over the place until at last unconsciousness took her. When she came to she found herself in a glass cage, Travis, hooked up to machinery before her. Everywhere she looked she saw other members of Liber8 who had travelled back in time with her months ago. Even the protector was there. The why and for what purpose they were being contained in a glass cell escaping her mind. After making her voice hoarse from screaming to be let out and for Travis she slid to the ground of her cage and closed her eyes. Panicking was not going to help any of them get out of this disaster. She merely needed to focus and find the solution. If there even was one. When she felt a chill in the air, Sonya, opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. Gone was the glass cage she had previously been in. Gone was the protector and everyone else that had been in that room. In fact, she was looking at a place that she had never seen before. Some might think it was a hallucination but Sonya wasn’t fooled. No, this was some test, to deceive and break them all. The purpose behind why still eluding her. Surely containing them was more than enough to preserve the future they were so determined to protect. That entire affair had thrown her off her game. And now, Sonya had determined nothing that made this all make sense. At least logically, that is. The Queen of Hearts had seen, learned and developed a lot of things but to believe this went beyond her IQ. It defied the natural order of everything. Went beyond anything she could fathom to believe. Despite coming from the future herself. While the apartment she had been given was decent, the fact remained that she was living alone and still hadn’t seen anyone she knew. And the network. Well that was an absolute joke. Sonya Valentine was not going to post on a network announcing her presence. Especially not when it seemed everyone was spilling their inner secrets. No matter how tempting it was she was going to avoid going near that until it was over. If she wanted to find the rest of Liber8 she was going to have to do it the hard way. Search for sights of them somewhere in this town and hope that they too were doing the same. That would certainly make it easier. As she walked down the street she took in everything she passed. Only acknowledging others when they looked at her and even then it was a clipped acknowledgement. Coming upon a park Sonya decided to sit and regroup. She’d been walking for an hour and hadn’t seen anyone she recognized. It was time to think of easier ways to find her friends. Ways that didn’t involve using the network everyone else seemed to be using or walking all over this small town. A rather large part of her, the doctor within her, held onto the hope that this was a hallucination. Some scheme that she along with all the other time travelers were victims of. To test her theory, and with narrowed eyes she yelled out, “if you’re plan is to deceive me into believing that this is real, you’ve chosen the wrong subject to begin with. I would think you’d know that I’m not so easily fooled.” |
