Finding a job wasn't easy when you technically didn't exist in the world. This one, at least. Aladdin had spent the past few days looking through the local newspapers and walking around town inquiring at any place that advertised "help wanted." What added to the delayed process, no doubt, was the developing issue of people randomly aging or de-aging. He knew Genie was capable of doing such a thing, and had an odd sense of humor to go with it, but he truly hadn't even considered the possibility of his friend being in town and not saying at least a hello before turning everyone into kids. "I don't know Abu, maybe the grocery store?" the Prince commented idly to the monkey perched on his shoulder. He knew Abu wasn't happy to be walking around in the cold for hours for the third day in a row, but he couldn't sit around and do nothing anymore. At the palace there was always something to do or to help Sultan with.
"I'll get you a hot cocoa on the way back, okay? I promise," he insisted, folding up the newspaper and shoving it into the back pocket of his jeans before he unzipped his jacket enough so that Abu could jump inside.
With each step he took, Al considered turning around and just going back to his apartment to huddle under a blanket by the heater. That is, until he heard the scream. Subconsciously the familiar sound registered with him and caused the prince to run in the direction it came from. Abu had even recognized the scream but remained bundled inside Aladdin's coat, except for his head peaking out just above the zipper. Aladdin didn't even second-guess the scream or rationalize that it couldn't possibly be his wife, she was back home and safe in Agrabah with her father and Genie.
Taking a short cut through an alley put him on the same street as the person who had screamed -- and Aladdin froze, his jaw falling a little slack. Was this another cruel dream of his? Since arriving he had had so many, he wasn't sure if he could stand to rush after her only to have her disappear again. This time though, Abu gave out a quiet vocal cue proving that Aladdin wasn't dreaming at all. He sighed softly in relief as a gentle smile spread across his features. "Jasmine," he whispered, unable to stop from smiling wider as her name left his lips. It felt like forever since the last time he'd seen her. Going from spending every day with someone to be involuntarily separated was more than a little rough.
Unfortunately, Al got a little too distracted by how beautiful his wife was -which was still a perfectly normal occurrence even after their marriage- and stood and stared for a good minute. Until Abu shrieked and started hitting him with his tiny monkey hat.
Snapping out of his daze, Aladdin instantly broke into a sprint to close the distance between them as quickly as possible. And also, because he was terrified she would get taken away by a portal if he didn't reach her fast enough. "JASMINE!" he called out halfway to her, out of courtesy. Last thing he wanted was to feel his wife's right hook.
