They were roommates, Anna and Castiel. Random assignment that worked out in a funny way, really. Not that either of them would really know it, considering both angels had very little in terms of living habits. Castiel did not tend to stick around the apartment, didn't know what to do in the place beside sit in one spot in his bedroom and stare at the wall until it went from white to strange, otherly colors in a spot behind his eyes.
He was gone more often than not. He wandered the town, the edges and outskirts of it. Spoke to strangers, endeared himself to local wildlife and watched whatever there was to watch. It was a peaceful sort of life for him, and while it was new and probably fleeting he liked it. It was easy. Boring. And Boring was so much nicer than the rush and horror of conflict and murder and blood decisions that he knew otherwise.
Boring wasn't even boring, really. There was always something to see.
"You like this spot," he said, appearing a few feet away on the dock, tilting his head down curiously until he could peer into the water, still dark without perfect, proper sunlight. He could feel the little fish, swimming around in the cold. His words weren't quite question, but probably didn't count much as statement either. It was more like an awkward greeting with no real beginning, only constant middles. "It's peaceful here."
