“I’m looking for another day job,” Ken told them over dinner.
“Remember the no-compete clause,” Aya said with a mild glare. “Both contracts.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to another florist, and I sure as heck don’t plan on taking up more assassin work. I got a call today, I’m going to check it out.”
“Tonight?” Omi asked, concerned.
“Where at?” Yohji prompted.
“The Jolly Fats Wehawkin Temp Agency…”

“Oh. You must be the new kid.” A grouchy-looking matron gave him the once-over as she walked slowly around him and settled at her desk. “I’ve seen worse.”
Ken ran a hand through his hair. “I, er, got a call to be here…this is the Jolly Fats –” he paused to consult his note “– Wehawkin Temp Agency, right?”
“He can read. Joyous day.”
“Ida. Stop teasing the new recruit.”
Ken startled and fell into a fighting crouch before thinking to look up. “Crawford?!??”

“What about –”
The Middleman raised a hand, halting Ken mid-question. “Some things are better not known, Ken-ken.”
“Okay…don’t call me that.”
“Do you know why I’m offering you this job?”
Ken shook his head.
“We take care of the weird but real threats that most people think only exist in anime and manga.”
“…You’re joking, right?”
“Was Ghidorah joking?”

Scene: the large flower-shop-slash-hippie-bus Ken shares with three other florist assassins.
“So, how’d it go?” Yohji drawled around a cigarette.
“I’m…really not sure,” Ken hedged. “It wasn’t at all what I expected.”
“Well, you’re stuck with it, my friend,” Yohji said carelessly. “Aya took you off the payroll.”
“He WHAT?!??”
“Figured that since you wanted out of the flower gig, he’d keep things on the up-and-up. You’ve officially quit, as of this morning.”
Ken sat down heavily and stole Yohji’s half-finished beer.
“Hey, you’re just working in an office, right? You’ll be well-rested for your night job!”
“Oh hell.”
