Well, at least Bethen is the total opposite of an apostate or maleficar, so half of his job in being forced to babysit her, the Circle Mage, will be easy. She's basically a mini-Wynne, even being a Spirit Healer to boot, and tends to be fairly obedient to the rules of the Circle and the Chantry, just because she doesn't want trouble.
I can see them actually getting along fairly well through their little trip -- up until the part where Beth decides to harbor a maleficar, although that even goes against her own usually strict moral code and deep-seated hatred of blood magic. But Desiderio's a special case, and she won't be aware of what he's been up to for a while, anyway. Otherwise, Beth and Alderic would actually have a lot in common, including a shared love of history and books. She's spent a great deal of time in the Tower's library, so over the years, he would probably have seen her there often. She's actually one of the oldest residents, too, having been there two years before Uldred's attack, so at the very least, they'd be acquaintances having walked the same hallways for most of their lives.
