Yeah, Beth...doesn't really know how to lie, anyway. Or at least not very well, and she certainly doesn't derive any enjoyment out of teasing people with serious fears. She's also just incredibly sincere and earnest most of the time, so sarcasm and jokes? Over her head, if she knows it isn't factually true.
Ooh, Beth can very, very thoroughly explain all about abominations and demons and why they're really, really bad. She doesn't believe that all Apostates are bad the way that the Chantry does, but she does feel like it's kind of her duty, on behalf of the Circle, to show others how to responsibly use magic. To her, being a member of the Circle is not about being controlled by the Chantry, as much as it is learning to discipline one's abilities. Of course, she's a bit deluded in that aspect and prefers to only talk about the good parts about growing up in the Tower.
