A conversation between friends
“Let me see him, let me see!” Tally demanded, holding her arms out and wiggling her fingers in excitement to hold her God son. Chrissy laughed and handed her only child over to her best and oldest friend. “Hello little man!” Tally greeted as Aiden came soring into her open arms. “Oh, you are just so very handsome!” Tally cooed to the near two year old.
“You spoil him worse than his grandparents do and I’m pretty sure there are rules against that.” Chrissy commented, the laughter still very present in her voice. “When are you finally going to settle down and actually find love for yourself?” Chrissy rarely ever asked Tally that, knowing how much of an overachiever the other girl was that room for love just had never been an option for Tally. But Chrissy could see how happy children made her that wanting a family couldn’t have been that far from her mind.
“I’m good.” Tally commented lightly as she played with Aiden. “Josh and Stacey are doing a fine job of reproducing. She’s pregnant with her third now.” Tally loved her brother and sister in law. Their children were fantastic and she loved being an aunt. Even her dad sobered up to be a decent grandfather to them. But Tally wasn’t ready for all that just yet. “I just graduated with my Medical degree, Chrissy. I mean, I am officially a Muggle and Magical doctor. Finally. Do you really think I have time to date now? I mean, date seriously and not just for fun?” Tally had had her good time while going through Residency, but those were with other students who neither had the time or the energy for anything more than that.
“I am working at the hospital emergency room most of the week and spend the rest of my time at the muggle clinic. Maybe when I’m thirty I’ll take this seriously, but for now? I just want do my thing.” Tally meant to say that in a stern ‘this is my life, leave it alone’ way but it came out as more of a pleading gesture.
Chrissy held up her hands as if in surrender, “Okay, okay, it was just a question.” She laughed though, not at all offended by Tally’s tone. The girl worked herself to death. Chrissy had rare moments of seeing Tally and she took them whenver they were available. Today, Tally had a day off from both jobs and instead of sleeping, she was spending it with Chrissy and Aiden.
“Sorry. Stacey and Josh have been all over me about settling down.” Tally commented, rolling her eyes as she set Aiden down in her lap so that she could actually have an adult conversation. “Stacey even went so far as to say my lady parts won’t last forever. I’m not even 24 yet!” Tally declared. “I a flipping doctor but the only thing they care about is whether or not I’m able to pop out babies. Gee thanks, glad my worth is only that.” Tally gave a snort of frustration.
“Hm… thought I heard the grumbling of one Ms. Tally Adams.” A male voice interupted them. Both girls looked up to see Landon grinning down at them. They were sitting in the tea room where the sun was and out of the cold.
“I do not grumble.” Tally pouted and then looked at Aiden who was happily playing with the buttons on her shirt. “Do I complain, Aiden? Am I a grumpy gus?” Aiden giggled but shook his head. “Smart man.” Tally said before grinning up at Landon as though Aiden’s opinion was the say all. “See, your son agrees.”
“My son also likes to put dirt in his mouth.” Landon joked. He leaned down and gave Chrissy a kiss on her cheek before doing the same to Tally. “Only joking, Tally. It’s good to see you around here. Aiden misses his Aunt.” Because Landon and Chrissy were only children, Tally had automatically been dubbed ‘aunt’ to their child as well as become his God Mother. Landon’s best friend had been named God Father. He usually didn’t come around when Tally was there. He had been too friendly towards her and Tally had been raised to protect herself. Needless to say, he learned his lesson and didn’t want to be tutored again. “I’m heading out. Do you need anything while I’m out?” Landon asked Chrissy. Normally they would send their help, but sometimes it was just easier for him to get it when he was already out.
“No, Hestia just went out for us. We should be good. Going to the club?” Chrissy asked of him. Landon nodded. After saying their good byes, the ladies were left alone again with Aiden as their entertainment. After more small talk and family catch up, Chrissy’s mood turned thoughtful. “Do you ever think about everyone?” She asked her friend. Tally’s green eyes looked up into Chrissy’s brown. “From Sonora. I haven’t seen anyone since we graduated. I mean, I read things about Jake and Jennifer but considering their they ‘It’ couple, it’s hard not too. But I never hear about anyone else.” She was curious, but it didn’t go beyond that. She really just wanted to know who was married, who had families, who chose careers, etc.
Tally shrugged. “No, not really.” She said honestly. She had her friends in Sonora, but it hadn’t lasted after their last day. She didn’t bother trying to keep something that wasn’t there. “I’m sure most went to college or some form of trade school and those who hadn’t either married or were knocked up.” Her last comment was mainly aimed at Mia. Petty, sure, but still the truth. “Think you’l l send Aiden there?” Tally asked. They had quite a time during their seven years there.
“We were thinking about it. But, we have plenty of time to figure it all out.”
“Just over nine years to be exact.”
“Yeah, so how about you start your own so that Aiden can be a role model.”
“Ha. Ha. Ha. Not happening.”
Laughing, Chrissy moved on from the conversation. As life would have it, they had moved on from their adolescent days.
